Big trees are the jobs people describe calling Marquis Tree Service for, and one Reddit commenter said in August 2024 that the company owns its own cranes. The company says on its site that it was established in 1993 by John, who holds degrees in arboriculture and urban forestry, and that it handles pruning, crane-assisted removal, stump grinding, land clearing, plant health care and 24/7 emergency work across Greater Boston and the Merrimack Valley. Its BBB profile names John Marquis as owner, lists 19 employees, and rates the company A+, accredited since 2012. The site lists ISA Certified Arborist and Board Certified Master Arborist credentials. On Angi it holds 4.9 stars from 226 ratings. In a January 2021 review, a customer whose first company backed out because its crane was too small said Marquis set up quickly and took a hazardous pine down piece by piece, with quotes, invoices and payments handled online. A June 2020 customer said four trees came down in two hours, with the two largest trunks hauled away the same day and three stumps ground a week later. A September 2020 customer who added a fourth pine on the day said the office called right away to confirm pricing. In a November 2021 review, a customer said the quote came in much lower than other arborists' for trimming big branches over a deck. In May 2026, an Angi customer gave 3 stars with a detailed complaint. The customer says the first visit left pruning and thinning unfinished but was charged in full, and the crew returned twice more to finish after they complained. A stump grinder then arrived with no notice, and the technician said six feet of rocks had to be cleared despite the estimate saying they would try to help with rocks; a manager refused to finish the grinding unless the customer paid to remove sections of fencing, and was disrespectful on the phone. On Reddit in August 2024, one commenter said they had used Marquis a few times and recommended them. In October 2024, another said the worker who came out was super nice but indicated the job would be very expensive because a crane couldn't get close enough.

I hired Marquis Tree Service to remove several trees and prune/thin tall trees on my property. During the first visit, they failed to complete the pruning/thinning work but still charged me in full. After I complained, they agreed the work was incomplete and had to return twice more to finish it. I also scheduled stump grinding near a rock wall and fence. The estimate stated they would ?try to help? with rocks around the stump if needed. I removed some rocks beforehand, but no one explained how much needed to be cleared. Weeks later, a stump grinder showed up unexpectedly with no notice. The technician then said I needed to remove six feet of rocks and claimed they ?never? help move rocks despite what the estimate said. A manager later refused to complete the stump grinding unless I paid to remove sections of fencing. He repeatedly interrupted me and was very disrespectful on the phone. Overall, very poor communication and customer service.

Very professional and great response time. All three workers were diligent and did a great job with the clean up afterwards. Extremely pleased with their service.
I am very happy with the work the Marquis team did for me. Three people; one is a woman. I applaud hiring women for this type of work; thank you, Marquis. They did exactly what I wanted done; the correct amount of trimming of big branches to open up more light on my deck and stop leaves and birds from making a mess throughout the year. I did not have to tell the crew what to do; they are the professionals and did a great job. I will be recommending Marquis to others; their quote came in much lower than other arborists; and I was very pleased with the result. GOOD value. Good cleanup.
