Martins Home Experts

Martins Home Experts is a painting, carpentry, and home-repair company at 94 Nickerson Rd in Ashland, MA, run by owner John Martins with an office team customers mention by name. The company says it was founded in 2013 and serves MetroWest and the western suburbs from Acton to Marlborough; the state registry shows an active home improvement contractor registration, 163225, under Martins Cleaning and Painting Inc, and the Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade. The company also describes itself as OSHA-certified and offers commercial cleaning alongside its painting and carpentry. Exterior painting is the work customers praise most, and specifically the prep. In 2024 and 2020 reviews, homeowners described whole-house scraping and sanding before priming, meticulous lines between two colors, and color matching for discontinued paints; one 2023 reviewer said a paint job from four years earlier still looked new. Carpentry comes up almost as often: sill, trim, and clapboard replacement alongside painting, a custom banister in 2024, a bulkhead built for a cellar door in early 2025, and a 2023 office conversion with a hidden bookshelf door into attic storage. Reviewers say the owner visits the site daily, separate crews handle each trade, and crews cover furniture and floors. A February 2026 customer got an estimate on a Friday, signed Monday, and had a three-person crew on site Tuesday for drywall and ceiling work. The complaints are specific and worth reading. In an August 2025 review, a homeowner said a roof leak repair failed within a year, was re-repaired, and then leaked again nearby. A 2021 drywall customer rated the work half a star; the company replied that the problem was in framing it had not built. A 2019 reviewer said a trim and gutter job ran late and messy, the crew did not return to finish, and the owner sought extra money to complete gutter work the contract already covered. Martins is a strong choice for exterior painting with real prep and for the carpentry repairs that go with it, and customers say pricing is fair. Get the full scope, including any gutter or roof work, into the written contract, and ask how warranty callbacks are handled before signing.
