Mass Renewables is a Bellingham, Massachusetts solar company doing roof-mount, ground-mount and tracker arrays, Tesla Powerwall batteries, critter guards, EV charging, mini splits and the electrical work that goes with them, for residential and commercial customers. Massachusetts lists both its Home Improvement Contractor registration 170683 and its electrician licence 775 as active, each held under the company's own name. The Better Business Bureau records it as incorporated in June 2009, accredited since January 2016, A+ rated, with 17 employees and owners Jeffrey Herman and Michael Kelley.
The strongest pattern in customer accounts is longevity of the relationship. One reviewer with a ten-year-old system wrote in 2026 that Mass Renewables installed and maintained it throughout and that they had dealt with the same people all along, naming Jeff Herman when their solar tracker needed attention. Another, a customer since 2016, has had two systems and a Powerwall installed and maintained by the same team. A 2025 reviewer coming up on ten years said the system had already paid for itself against a projected five-year payback. Owners appear by name in these accounts - Mike on design and financing, Dianne through consultation and planning, Jeff and his crew on installation and service, Patrick leading an install crew a reviewer described as respectful of house rules with pets and children around.
The company also takes on work it did not originate: a 2026 reviewer had panels removed and reset for a roof replacement on a system another company had installed, and said everything ran exactly on time. Several reviewers describe a clear upfront roadmap covering project stages, timing and when payments fall due, and one specifically said they never felt upsold. A 2025 reviewer credited Dianne with suggesting a paid extension so the inverter warranty matched the 25-year panel warranty.
The reservations are administrative rather than technical. A reviewer who moved a one-star rating to two stars in May 2025 was explicit that they had no concerns about the quality of the installation work, and said the matter was eventually resolved after back-and-forth with Mike and Jeff. The BBB profile renders exactly one review body, an undated and unrated negative one, describing mishandled paperwork for a SMART battery incentive that the writer says delayed payments by more than two years and cost roughly $1,300.
