SGE Solar - Second Generation Energy

I installed my solar array in 2022 on my south facing roof, went into production in February 2023. There were 7 companies competing for the project, and I picked SGE Solar since they seemed honest, had good reviews, reasonably priced and promised 90% performance guarantee. The original system consisted of 34 REC 405AA panels with peak performance of 13.77 Mw. My house needs were estimated as 16.3 Mw / year at that time. Supplier warranted the system at 12.1Mw output. During the last 3 years, my top production was at 9.4Mw at the first year, which is 78% of promised output; other years even lower: 75%, 73%. When asked about performance guarantee, the supplier said "we never had to pay anybody", was repeatedly pretending they missed my emails, once promised "they will make me whole" but eventually just started ignoring my requests. I am still paying for electricity despite having south facing roof and more panels than similar systems with higher production rates.

I don't typically write letters extolling the virtues of a companies employees, but after working with SGE, I felt it was warranted. From my initial contact with Doug, he was great to work with. His construction background was critical when it came to designing a system with the drop from the roofline hidden, and he was extremely helpful with any follow up questions and keeping me apprised of the status once I decided to go with SGE. His approach and rapport was a key reason why I went with SGE in the first place. Megan, was extremely helpful with scheduling of material and the install, and payment information. She also kept me appraised throughout the process. Pat and Joe, my installation team where second to none! These guys were awesome. Orderly, neat and professional. The quality of their work was 100%. Great price and top quality work!

Unprofessional & run fast

Working with SGE Solar was a really solid experience. We were on a pretty tight timeline, and they got everything done right on schedule without making it feel rushed. What stood out most was that they didn’t cut corners just to move faster. The system design was still well thought out. You can tell they actually care about doing it right, not just getting it done. Everything came together smoothly, and the quality of the work really shows.

We worked with a number of different solar companies over the last few months to evaluate the potential for adding an array on our roof. Our property is a challenging one for solar, with our roof not really oriented in the right direction and some complicated shade issues from both existing trees and potential future growth of immature trees on our own property and adjacent properties owned by our neighbors. Doug from SGE was the ONLY salesman / company that would sit down with me to accurately model the height of existing trees and discuss the impact of future tree growth. With the accurate modeling it became apparent that unfortunately solar really dosent work on our roof. As a result we aren’t going forward. A company that is willing to be honest and give you the facts even when it may mean they might lose a sale seems to be a unique thing in the solar industry these days. If our shade situation changes in the future, we’ll be ready to go solar and will do so with SGE.
