Massachusetts Home Remodeling's website says it specializes in start to finish construction projects of all shapes and sizes, and that its employees are on staff full time rather than relying on sub-contractors. In a 2026 review, a customer had a tub changed to a walk in shower for their mother; John came to the home, gave a quote that was less than their other estimate, and they wrote that they couldn't be happier with the new shower. In another 2026 review, John and his team did a powder room, some wall repair, refinished hardwoods and built-in closets of real wood carpentry, and were friendly and professional. In 2025, John and his team repointed a fieldstone foundation and replaced wood timber posts with steel beams, drilling into the concrete to create footings; that customer wrote that they worked efficiently and didn't leave any messes. A 2025 review says John and his team renovated an outdated kitchen, stayed in budget from beginning to end, and kept the project on time. In a 2024 review, a condo owner wrote that John and his crew replaced bedroom closet doors, altered a guest closet opening, removed a bathroom door and built shelves and a small cabinet into the doorframe space, changed a bedroom light for a ceiling fan with the wiring brought up to code, and installed a kitchen dimmer switch, all in four days. In 2023, the company replaced two sets of stairs for a customer after sending a detailed and clear estimate, and also replaced a vanity and a door, painting the door without being asked. A 2022 review says the company renovated a kitchen and half bathroom, with design assistance that customer called a huge help. In a 2026 review, a customer who signed a contract with John in January for a March start, with 8-10 weeks allowed in the contract, wrote that 4.5 months later maybe 3 weeks of work had been done. The same customer wrote of a 2 month delay before the electrician and plumber showed up, a building permit still not filed, and trash left in the yard despite asking for its removal. In a 2025 review, a customer who was told they would get an email with options and prices wrote that 4 1/2 weeks later they still could not get a call back or quote.
We had our tub changed to a walk in shower for my mother. John came to our home and provided us a quote which was less than our other estimate. He was polite and knowledgeable from the start and we couldn’t be happier with our new shower.
What a mistake. When I first reached out to John, he seemed good - responsive, helpful, kind. But once I signed the contract, that all changed. I met with John in January to sign the contract. He set a start date in March. He told me it was a 4-6 week project for which he allowed 8-10 weeks in the contract. Here I am 4.5 months later and maybe 3 weeks of work has been done. Communication has been terrible. Most of my emails reaching out to John went ignored. When I did get a response, it was typically dismissive and rude. There was a 2 month delay in between the first week of work and the electrician and plumber showing up. John blamed the subs saying he’s not in control of their schedule. When the electrician finally showed up, I found out John had just contacted him that same week. My initial payment was to cover permits, allowance items, engineer, scheduling and start up costs. He has still not filed for a building permit nor given the plumber approval to submit for plumbing permit, has not bought any allowance items, and I haven’t seen an engineering report. So many other things I could say. On top of it all, they have left their trash out in my yard all these months, despite me asking them to remove it. I gave John every opportunity to work with me through whatever situation he is going through but he never responded in kind. Truly disappointing
John and his team did a number of projects for us: a powder room, some wall repair, refinished hardwoods, and beautiful built-in closets (real wood carpentry, not the particle board stuff). He and his team were friendly and professional.
My initial interactions were great. They came out quickly, John was polite and helpful. He said he would email me later that night with options and prices. 4 1/2 weeks later, I still can’t get a call back or quote. I’ve left two voicemails and at one point someone did answer my phone call (not John) and said my job was on his list and he would get me a quote by the end of that week. Obviously that didn’t happen. I wouldn’t normally write a bad review for ghosting me, although I do think it’s a terrible business practice, and a complete waste of my time. What prompted me to write this review was how the man I spoke to was clearly irritated that I called. I don’t appreciate being treated that way.
I was so pleased with John and his team! I have worked with other contractors over the years and they were by far the best. I needed the fieldstone foundation repointed in addition to replacing wood timber posts with steel beams. It was a a big project requiring they drill into the concrete to create concrete footings etc. The team was excellent with attention to the details. I was impressed with the ongoing communication with John. They worked efficiently and didn't leave any messes. I would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again on future projects!
