Masterwork Painting and Restoration is a Woburn, Massachusetts painting company founded in 1995 by Rich O'Neil, who built the business around an in-house craftsman training program and has served as vice-president of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America's national Craftsmanship Forum. The company is EPA and Massachusetts Lead-Safe Certified and holds a 2007 PDCA award for Best Residential Restoration of the Year. It has also been featured on the PBS series Ask This Old House, in segments on exterior paint removal and cabinet painting. The written record, drawn mostly from 2020 and 2021 Houzz reviews (the profile carries a perfect 5.0-star average across 38 ratings), centers heavily on kitchen cabinet painting and refinishing. In a 2020 review, a homeowner described Masterwork transforming twelve-year-old cherry cabinets to white, then repairing an accidental nick within 24 hours before a home showing. A design-build firm's 2020 review calls the company unusually organized and systematic in its project management, a trait it says is uncommon in the trades. In a 2021 review, a homeowner described the crew refinishing original woodwork in an 80-year-old house to a better-than-expected result, while another 2021 reviewer working through cabinetry quirks during a live-in renovation praised the crew's patience and communication throughout. Beyond cabinetry, the company's historic-restoration work has drawn outside press coverage: a 2015 trade-press article described its restoration painting of a historic Cambridge, MA church using a premium primer and paint system, and a 2011 Boston Magazine feature credited a Masterwork painter with a custom-painted checkerboard built-in for a family game room. What's worth confirming before booking: the detailed written record on file dates mostly to 2020-2021, so it's worth asking about current crew availability and lead times. Masterwork looks like a strong fit for homeowners and design professionals seeking high-end cabinet painting, woodwork refinishing, or historic restoration work, particularly given its long tenure, industry leadership role in painting craftsmanship standards, and its recognition beyond customer reviews alone.

Masterwork Painting and Restoration did an absolutely beautiful job on my kitchen. Their cabinetry carpentry work and painting was impeccable. They have outstanding customer service and have an eye for detail. They explained the process end-to-end so I would know what to expect. Thank you for making my dream of a modern minimalist kitchen come to life. I would highly recommend them. Their work is stunning!
We are more than pleased to have worked with Masterwork Painting and Restoration on our kitchen update. The communication with us throughout the whole process was clear, they were thorough, detailed and clean. We had to live in the house while they were painting, and they were on time every morning. Every person who came to our house was professional, when it was necessary to use an outside source to accommodate some new appliances and cabinet repairs, their sources were as experienced as they are. Our kitchen turned out better than we thought, it is not often that you get to say that.....
Outstanding work! Cabinets look top notch and we are delighted with everything It was a pleasure to engage Masterworks As the company is very professional in both business and technical interactions
Masterworks did an AMAZING job cleaning up and refinishing the woodwork in our 80 year old house. It came out looking even better than we had expected and we agree having them come in was one of the best decisions we've made The crew that came in was so nice and a joy to have around. They answered any question we had and left the place tidy everyday. I can wholeheartedly say that I would hire them again in a heartbeat!!
Excellent experience. Great communication throughout, patience explaining the process and most importantly the finish and craft of the work is outstanding. We had what I assume are the usual quirks of refinishing existing cabinetry and they were all handled great. David and Chris (?, sorry) were super - efficient, respectful (we were living in the house), communicative and again did stellar work. Highly recommend.
