Matthew Gambale, trading as Gambale Construction out of Lynn, holds the two credentials Massachusetts actually requires, and one of them is confirmed at source: Home Improvement Contractor registration 203745 is registry-verified active in his own name, and a Construction Supervisor licence, CS-116492, is listed alongside it. That pairing — the Construction Supervisor licence for structural work, the HIC registration for residential improvement work — is exactly right for a builder taking on whole-house jobs, and there are no duplicate or contradictory numbers anywhere in his record. The permitted work backs that up. A whole-house renovation on Gedick Road in Burlington ran across two 2023 permits: $89,000 for entirely new plumbing, electrical and a natural-gas forced hot-and-cold-air system, a new 200-amp service with the house completely rewired, and a new downstairs floor plan framing a bedroom, two closets and a half bathroom; and $45,000 for two gut bathrooms, a kitchen face lift, new windows and a beam replacement. A $18,000 permit at 38 Beach Street in Marblehead in 2024 demolished an old back deck and built a new 12-by-16 replacement. He describes the business as veteran owned and operated with seven years of experience, offering doors and windows, handyman work and remodeling, and specialising in additions and kitchen remodels. Free estimates are offered; no warranty is. The customer record is genuinely thin. Exactly one review exists, written in May 2022 after a kitchen remodel, and it appears on both Angi and HomeAdvisor as the same review rather than two — a homeowner said he has excellent communication skills and is very thorough when you are clear about what you want. That is a positive and usefully specific note about how he works, but it is one voice from four years ago, and the caveat inside it — "when you are clear about what you want" — is worth taking as practical advice. One oddity to ignore rather than trust: both platforms draw a star bar reading 100% five-star while the rating they publish and the review they hold are both 4.5. Gambale Construction is a reasonable candidate for a gut renovation, a kitchen or bathroom, new windows or a deck on the North Shore, with a verified state registration behind it. Given how few people have written about him, ask for two or three recent references you can call, and go into the first meeting with a written, itemised scope — the one review on record suggests that is where the relationship works best.
