Eighty-three permits, and almost all of them are the unglamorous jobs that keep a house running: a gas furnace swapped out in Lowell, a boiler with an auto water feed in Revere, an irrigation meter and backflow preventer in Groveland, a kitchen sink faucet and a lav faucet in two units of the same Methuen building. This Lynn shop pulls plumbing, gas-fitting and heating permits, and it pulls a lot of them. The footprint is unusually wide for a one-owner outfit — Malden, Melrose, Beverly, Lowell, Groveland, Methuen, Nahant, Revere, Danvers, Newburyport, Peabody, Waltham — and Marblehead is squarely inside it, with three separate plumbing permits pulled there in January and March 2022. Bigger jobs show up too: a new third-floor bathroom in Melrose and a $20,000 half-bath addition in Beverly. The pace has slowed, though. Four permitted projects in the past three years against 83 all-time, and the most recent sampled work is the Beverly half-bath from March 2024. Nobody has written a review. BuildZoom says so outright, so there is no rating and nothing describing what it is like to have them in the house. Its score of 96 is computed from permits and licence records, not from customers. The credentials need care, because BuildZoom's licence block contradicts itself. It labels a Massachusetts plumbing business licence "Active" while printing no licence number at all and heading the record "License Not Verified" — and in the same breath says the licence carried an expiration date of May 2026, which has passed. It puts a "Verified License" badge on master pipefitter licence MA24479P while admitting it has not checked that record since January 2010. And it lists a sheet metal licence, #5547, as inactive and once cancelled. None of this was confirmed against the state registry here, so treat every one of those statuses as a directory claim rather than a fact. One more oddity: among the sampled permits sits an electrical alteration in Malden to remove knob-and-tube wiring — an electrician's job, not a plumber's, and most likely a filing attributed to the wrong contractor. For a furnace replacement, a boiler, a gas line or bathroom plumbing on the North Shore, the permit history is the substance here. Ask for the current plumbing licence number and check it directly with the state's E-Licensing board before booking, and ask who would hold the master licence on your job.
