Middlesex Paint and Restoration Services is a Concord, MA outfit built around an executive-turned-contractor origin story — founder Tom left a corporate career after one too many bad experiences hiring contractors of his own, and reviewers describe exactly that hands-on style: he quotes jobs personally, stays in touch through the work, and the same name keeps coming up project after project. The company says it has covered Middlesex County and the Greater Boston area, including Concord, Cambridge, and Somerville, for more than a decade, with painting as the core of the business alongside carpentry, historic-home restoration, gutters, and hardscaping. The last few months read as mostly consistent with that. A June review praised a full house repaint for fair pricing and steady updates on the inevitable extra costs of working on an older home, and an April review had the crew handle a walk-in shower repair — caulking, grouting, and paint — done exactly as asked. That pattern goes back further, too: across 27 reviews spanning 2021 to 2026, several customers describe hiring the company again for new projects rather than a single job. Google has them at 4.9 stars, the Better Business Bureau grades the company A+ (it isn't a BBB-accredited business, which is a separate designation from the grade), and its foremen carry EPA RRP lead-safe certification and follow PDCA prep standards — relevant given how much of the work is on older homes. Not every account from this spring was clean, though. One April review said the crew replaced less rotted clapboard than had been discussed, left the window screens off after finishing, and let the schedule slip into freezing-weather painting before wrapping up. Worth asking directly about the siding-repair scope and getting a firm finish date before work starts. For a repaint, a restoration job on an older house, or carpentry tied to painting prep, Middlesex is a reasonable call — the Massachusetts home-improvement license (HIC #185225) checks out as active, and there's more history behind the company than a handful of reviews. Just pin down the repair scope and timeline in writing, given the one recent complaint about both.

Tom and his crew did an outstanding job painting our house. Beyond the excellent work, his prices are quite reasonable, and he was very good at communicating and keeping us updated on progress. He was also helpful with keeping costs under control for the inevitable additional work that comes with work in an older house.

2-3 stars. The overall paint job isn’t great. Fixed less clapboard than they implied and left all screens off my windows. They delayed so long it was freezing temps when painting. I just surgery and can’t get my screens in with one hand so my annoyance is lingering.

Guillermo did some repair work in our walk-in shower (caulking, grouting, painting). All the work was done exactly right, and Guillermo was a pleasure to work with

We've been very happy with the work completed by Middlesex Paint & Restoration. Tom is always a pleasure to deal with from the initial quotes to project completion, with excellent communication throughout. Most recently this included an extensive carpentry project to repair/replace exterior siding and some framing due to water damage and wood rot. Eduardo and his crew did high quality work with a lot of attention to detail, making additional/recommended fixes along the way (new flashing, downspout replacement, etc.) to address root causes of the water/drainage problems. Romario and his crew then did a fantastic job with painting the entire exterior of our home and we're thrilled with the finished look!

I contacted Middlesex Paint and Restoration to quote an extensive caulking rather than a painting job. Tom researched my job ahead of coming out to quote the job, understood the challenges, identified the extra items involving paint and being up on the dormer that were easy to address while his crew was there. The job was done well and on time, and slightly ahead of schedule and duration. The only surprises were good ones. For a "different" job than usual, I was very pleased with the accuracy of the quote, and the job that was done.
