Forty-two years in one town, and the specialty list tells you which town: historic house painting, in Concord. Daniel Frost started H.D.F. Painting in 1984, and the company still works out of 10 Orchard Rd as what it calls a two-generation, father-and-son family business. The work stays residential and broad within painting — interiors and exteriors, kitchen cabinets, high-gloss finishes, deck staining, furniture painting, wallpaper removal and color consultation — across Concord and the Middlesex towns around it, from Cambridge and Belmont out to Lincoln, Carlisle and Harvard. Outside its own site the trail is short but real. The Boston Globe named Dan Frost as owner of the Concord painting company in a May 2024 piece. A decade earlier, a 2014 post on Concord Carpenter quoted Dan on whether to paint or replace old clapboard: sanding the siding down to bare wood and repainting buys more life out of it, he said, with no guarantee the paint won't fail — the kind of answer a painter gives when he isn't trying to sell the bigger job. So what you have is a long-running, small, owner-named shop whose own list leads with the fussy work: historic exteriors, cabinets, mirror-finish doors and furniture. If your house is old and the finish detail is the point, that is the profile to call. Before booking, ask for recent addresses in your own town that you can drive past, a written scope covering surface prep — on old clapboard that is most of the job — and a current certificate of insurance.
