MJR Carpentry — legally Mjr Carpentry & Remodeling LLC — is Michael Mellen's Lynn-based carpentry outfit, about four years in business per its Thumbtack profile and built around doors, windows, finish carpentry, framing, cabinets, decks and general remodel work. Across Angi and HomeAdvisor, which publish the same 11-review set, the company sits at 4.6 stars. Ten of those reviews repeatedly name "Mike" for showing up on time, cleaning up after himself, and holding to the price he quoted, on jobs Angi describes as running from a $255 call to a $15,000 kitchen-and-bathroom update. In a 2024 review, a homeowner in an old house described him correctly diagnosing an exterior repair and working within their budget; a 2022 review recounts a storm-door and exterior-door install, and another 2022 review describes a kitchen-and-bathroom update handled with minimal disruption to the household. A May 2025 Thumbtack review is described by Thumbtack as following drywall and interior-wall work. The one serious problem on record is specific and recent: in a February 2026 review, a customer describes a roughly $10,000 bathroom job left with an uneven floor, peeling ceiling paint, sloppy grout, hardwood floors damaged elsewhere in the house, a broken front-door lock and wall damage from crew traffic on the stairs, and says Mike stopped responding once he'd been paid. Before booking, it's worth checking licensing directly: BuildZoom reports an active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration (#204390, issued this February), but also lists an earlier registration under the same trade (#194775) as inactive, which it says was at one point cancelled. For carpentry, framing, deck and cabinet work the long review history is reassuring; for anything closer to a full bathroom remodel, get a detailed written scope and a firm completion date given the one account of serious, unresolved damage.
