Stanley Greene's name is on everything here. MKJC Carpentry is his shop, run from Rock Wood Drive in Saugus, and the homeowners who write about it write about Stan personally rather than about a company. The work sorts into two piles. Its permits are the outdoor-and-structure kind — decks and porches stripped off and rebuilt, basement framing and insulation, a damaged foundation replaced — filed across Lowell, Milton, Groveland and Waltham at valuations from roughly $4,000 to $60,000. Its marketing reaches far wider: frame to finish, kitchens, baths, siding, gutters, windows, doors, roofing. Reputation is where it gets complicated, and this is the part to slow down on. Thumbtack shows 4.5 stars from 43 ratings and 31 hires, with 84% at five stars — but also 5% at two stars and 9% at one. BuildZoom, working from just two ratings, averages 3.0, and its page carries a long, itemized complaint about cabinet, plumbing and stove-venting workmanship on a roughly $50,000 kitchen-plus-bedroom job, including the charge that the owners sent other contractors instead of doing the work themselves. It isn't recent, but it is specific, and a specific complaint about the actual work counts for more than a stack of short praise. The credentials side is cleaner. The Better Business Bureau accredited the business in September 2025 and grades it A+, with no complaints and no government actions on its page, and Thumbtack completed a background check on Greene at the end of 2025. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, #185804, and says it was active when checked — that is the directory's claim, not something we confirmed against the state registry. Its own profiles also disagree about basics: the BBB has the business starting in June 2015, eleven years ago, with five employees, and calls it a sole proprietorship; Thumbtack says sixteen years and eight employees. For decks, porches, framing or a basement build-out, this is squarely the work its permits show. For a full kitchen or bath — the category the complaint came from — ask who is actually on site, get any subcontractors named in writing, check #185804 yourself with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs, and hold back a real final payment until the punch list is closed.

Kitchen remodel and Bedroom, $50,000. I hired this company to redo my kitchen, and add on a bedroom. They were quite pleasant and I was excited to work with them at first. The owners did not do the work themselves, they sent various contractors. Within less than a month of completion, cabinets were falling off of the hinges. Also found a lot of damage that they did to my cabinets and walls that they never repaired. Handles were put on the wrong side of some of the cabinet drawers. Holes were drilled incorrectly, causing them to have to drill more holes for the knobs to fit. Drilling was careless... cabinets splintering in places, sawdust everywhere. Plumbing was done incorrectly and I had to pay someone to fix even though I paid these guys to do it already. Stove was previously vented up through my roof... they decided to seal that and vent it into my house, so all the smoke and cooking smells now fill my house. When I sent Stan my concerns and pictures of what his people did and asked for him to stop by to see for himself, he couldn't be bothered. He sent another man who showed up and told me they fired the other carpenter and he proceeded to patch things (poorly) that the other guy missed. Months later, my and my husband are still fixing things. This was over $50k and is a nightmare. Run in the other direction!

Stan and his crew were great! I got the impression that Stan cares about doing a good job and does not overcharge for it. Small kitchen remodel and roof both done perfectly and quickly. Will definitely use Stan for any other work in my house! (General Contracting; hired on Thumbtack)

Stan and his crew did an interior renovation at my house. They took down a wall to create an open concept living space. Added a few windows and installed a backsplash. He was extremely thorough throughout the process. Everything was clearly outlined. Exceeded my expectations. A pleasure to work with and will definitely call MKJC again for any future needs. (Complete room renovation, living room; hired on Thumbtack)

In looking to help my parents remove their tub and replace it with a shower I had contacted 4 contractors. Stan from MKJC Carpentry showed up on time, presented us with a fair estimate and completed the work in a professional manner. He is a caring individual of my parents needs and his work was first rate. Thank you STAN and your crew. (Bathroom Remodel — tub-to-shower conversion, plumbing relocated, handicap accessible; hired on Thumbtack)
