The jobs customers describe here keep outgrowing the company name. One homeowner hired ML Finish Carpentry for a basement and ended up more than doubling the original scope — framing and drywall for a new closet, pantry and stair-wall bump-out, a new skirt board and railing — writing in May that Mac talked through every decision before acting on it. That is the shape of the whole written history: a finish carpenter people keep handing bigger work to. In a January 2026 review, a homeowner described built-ins that turned a blank living-room wall into the feature of the room. In February 2026, another described an old attic converted into a finished office and called the pricing transparent right through invoicing and payment terms. A March customer had their job finished in a single day, at what they called a fair price, with the space left clean. Speed comes up nearly as often as craftsmanship. In a 2023 review, a customer wrote that Macliver ran molding through three rooms in one day in an old house with out-of-true walls and ceilings, then updated the same review after the team came back for plaster, caulk and paint. A local business directory carries similar customer praise for the company's stair work. Two things are worth knowing before calling. The written history is small — five reviews spread across three years, all on Google, all at five stars — so there is no difficult job in it to judge them by. And the work customers describe, framing and drywall and whole-room conversions, runs well past trim: if your project is that size, ask which parts this team performs itself and which get subcontracted. A sensible call for a defined interior project — built-ins, molding, a basement or attic conversion — where you want one person carrying it end to end. Get the scope and price in writing, and confirm registration and insurance for anything involving framing or permits.
“one customer describing the stairs they installed as a "beautiful job" and another mentioning a staircase transformation from old to gorgeous”
We just recently finished a full basement reno with Mac and our experience with him was amazing. He’s highly skilled, quick, responsible, and an excellent communicator. Mac never did anything without consulting us first, talking through ideas, and fine tuning details so that the end product would work and look great. In the end, we liked working with him so much that we more than doubled our original scope with him. For this project, Mac managed and performed the following: 1) new framing and drywall for a new closet, pantry, and stair wall bump out, 2) new skirt board at stair and new railing, newel post, and balusters, 3) new exterior double door with custom white oak threshold, 4) new slate tile at exterior door floor, 5) four new interior doors including all standing trim, 6) column and beam wraps using reclaimed wood, 7) custom media wall with inset cabinets and open upper shelving, 8) painting of all millwork in place, 9) plaster over popcorn ceilings and walls in the staircase, and 10) custom closet shelving especially in the pantry. We also had a pipe burst during the reno and Mac and his team graciously helped us clean the entire basement by moving things around, sucking up water, and demoing affected areas. My wife and I recommend Mac to all our friends and I know we will definitely be using him again for our future projects.
5 Stars!! These guys are amazing! ML Finish Carpentry were great to work with. They are professional, prompt, communicated very clearly, and the finished product was outstanding. They came on time and completed the work in a single day, at a fair price, and left the space clean as ever. I highly recommend ML Finish Carpentry.
ML Finish Carpentry is the go to turnkey solution for custom home remodeling projects. They are far more than a carpentry company, they are a full service suite to whatever you can imagine. The team at ML renovated an old, dusty attic into a gleaming office masterpiece, with care and attention to all the details and creature comforts. They work hard and efficiently to get the job down at prices that just don't exist anymore in Massachusetts for quality contracting. Always transparent with pricing, invoicing, and communicating payment terms it is a no hassle experience. They can accommodate almost any request. I can't recommend them enough and would be happy to field questions from prospective customers.
We recently had Mac complete built-in bookshelves in our LR. I can’t begin to tell you how great these turned out! Our experience was top-notch and Mac was wonderful to work with. Everything was timely and clean. He communicated with us throughout the entire project. We were able to tell him what our vision was and he nailed it! Took a blank wall and made it beautiful! Even down to the painter which was also phenomenal! Mac is a great finish carpenter and I only wish we could have him do the rest of house! I highly recommend him and his team!!
Macliver did a gorgeous job with the molding. He was quick, too--3 rooms in a day. We have an old house with tricky walls and ceilings. Looks beautiful. UPDATE! The team completed part 2 of this project: plaster, caulk, + paint. Quick, professional, and clean. Would hire again!
