The first thing to settle with Modern Atlantic Structure is the licence. BuildZoom says the Somerville company held Massachusetts contractor licence #165257 with an expiration date of 24 January 2018, and when it re-checked in April 2026 the licence was still expired — which is why the profile carries a score of 0 and a warning flag rather than a ranking. What the company has done is visible in permits, not in customer writing. Two are on file, both pulled in 2023 in East Boston: a $250,000 gut remodel at 223 Princeton St covering two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, dining and living room, and a $91,000 first-floor unit remodel at 137 Orleans St with a new kitchen, new electrical, doors and trim. That is whole-unit renovation work on multi-family housing stock, at real project sizes. Nobody has published a review of them, so the permits are the entire public track record. If you are considering them for a gut renovation, ask directly about the licence status — a homeowner in Massachusetts has recourse through the Guaranty Fund only when the contractor is currently registered — and ask for addresses of jobs finished since 2023.
