Across more than a hundred reviews stretching back to 2021, one name does almost all the talking: Patrick, the owner of MRW Contractors, who shows up to quote the job himself and, by every account here, personally sees it through. The Quincy-based company does masonry restoration, foundation repair, and basement waterproofing, and its specialty seems to be the kind of job that scares off other contractors — century-old fieldstone foundations, 1850s and 1900s brick homes, chimneys that have been leaning or leaking for years. The recurring story is water: a basement wall repointed and sealed, cracks filled inside and out with steel plates added to stop them re-forming, a mechanical room in a South End condo kept dry after Patrick traced the actual source of an infiltration to a spot three feet under the sidewalk. On older homes, reviewers describe him sourcing period-matched brick cut down to the smaller size used historically, and repointing done so carefully that, as one reviewer put it, you probably wouldn't even notice the changes. A recurring theme is honesty about scope and cost: multiple reviews describe Patrick breaking a large job into affordable phases, giving budget-tiered options, or suggesting a cheaper fix (like gutter extensions) before committing to a bigger one. Pricing comes up often and favorably — a reviewer who compared multiple bids picked MRW on value as much as trust — and the pattern holds across both small jobs (a firebox repair, a chimney repointing finished in a day) and large ones (a full church repointing, a 1908 basement prepped for radiant heat). The one recurring caveat, mentioned more than once, is that Patrick's schedule fills up — a few reviewers describe waiting weeks to months for a start date, which reads less as a complaint and more as evidence of demand. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. For foundation repair, basement waterproofing, or masonry work on an older Boston-area home, MRW's track record here is about as clean as they come.
“Patrick and team did an excellent jo”
MRW repaired and resurfaced the front stairs and walkway of our condo property in the South End of Boston. Patrick and team did a fantastic job and were competitively priced.
Patrick did an impeccable job on our 1908 basement (crumbling stone foundation & semi-finished floor). We picked him from two other competitive bids. He came in on schedule, and on budget. The job entailed prepping and parging the walls, floor demo & prep for laying radiant heat, pouring a new slab (which involved ensuring the cement recipe was right for polishing). He came back in when we asked if he could do some finishing work on the seams between the walls and floor. His team is efficient, they clean up, and the whole crew -- esp Patrick -- is craft proud, which is rare these days. He was communicative from start to finish (with us, and with the other contractors) and professional at all times. He's a gem, and you'll be lucky to work with him. Before and after pics below.
Patrick and MRW are fantastic. Patrick visited promptly to quote our project, and his team was onsite doing the work the next day. They did an excellent job and the price was very fair. 100% recommend.
Fantastic work on an old building with hard to source bricks! If you didn’t know work was done, you probably wouldn’t even notice the changes! Feels remarkable for the exterior of a building that is so old! Patrick sourced the right bricks, cut them down to size (smaller bricks used back then), and did a great installation!
Patrick was excellent and worked on my 1850 brick home in Charlestown. All of my masonry required cutting and pointing and the lintels and headers were also in need of work, etc. High quality finish! The Best! He also broke down the work into two phases so I could afford to do it over two periods. The house looks gorgeous now and I highly recommend him to all my clients and colleagues. He is very knowledgeable and also has many partners in other disciplines that he helped me navigate. Grateful for his professionalism, competitive pricing! Highly recommend!!!
