Ned Stevens Gutter Installation works out of 150 Cross St in Winchester and is one division of Ned's Home, a multi-state exterior-services operator. It is not a family business in the way the name suggests: KPMG Corporate Finance, which advised the deal, states that Ned Stevens had operated for over 50 years under the same family ownership before its sale to Incline Equity Partners, and was subsequently sold on to AVALT Holdings.
When the work goes well, customers describe the same three things: speed, thoroughness, and cleanup. A homeowner writing in June 2026 booked a job and had the crew there a couple of days later, and said they not only cleaned the old gutters but repaired the bad sections, reattached the spouts, and left a full report of what was done. Another in June 2026 posted the project on Angi and had a courteous two-man crew scheduled quickly, cleaned up after, and called afterwards with the inspection findings. A July 2026 customer had gutters cleaned, the roof cleared and a chimney cover fitted on a return visit, calling the company efficient, reliable and fairly priced. Customers repeatedly mention that crews rake up and bag what comes out of the gutters and leave the yard as they found it.
The complaints are not about craftsmanship so much as about billing, authorization and showing up. A homeowner in April 2026 found a hang tag on the door declaring the job complete and the gutters still full of leaves; they were charged, disputed it, and the company later acknowledged the job was not done and agreed to a full refund. In June 2026 another customer said the crew arrived more than a week past the stated date, removed duct tape, left a backwards installation unfixed, and charged anyway. A May 2026 customer whose leaf guards had failed two years after installation called the mesh cheap and said crews had shown up to clean without prior authorization. Two people who contacted the company for a quote reported being billed regardless — one receiving a collection-agency notice for $230 for a cleaning they say they never agreed to, another describing charges continuing after cancellation together with a threat to their credit. The BBB's D+ rests on ten complaints and a failure to respond to one of them.
There is a worker-safety record too: in 2016, trade press reported that the company's Massachusetts entity was cited for a repeat violation of fall-protection requirements after an employee fell from a garage roof and was injured.
This is a high-volume operator with a real crew and a genuine track record on routine gutter cleaning, repair and replacement, and most customers get exactly that. Before booking, get the price and the scope in writing, be explicit that no recurring or automatic service is authorized, and check the work before paying — the failures on file are billing and scheduling failures, and they are the ones the company has been slowest to answer.
