Two accounts of New England Gutter Protection point in opposite directions, and the newer one carries the most weight. The Fitchburg company does one thing. Seamless aluminium and copper gutters, guards and covers, repairs, fascia and soffit work, and underground drains to move water away from the foundation, across a service list that runs from Essex County through Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Worcester. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and registered in the company's own name. It describes itself as family-owned. Then there is the split. On Google it sits at 3.6 from five ratings, and both reviews posted this year are hard ones. In July a homeowner wrote that the initial job quality was poor, that they climbed onto their own roof to photograph it to get the crew back, and that even after the return visit the work still was not right — and that repeated attempts to reach the owner about the promised fix went unanswered. In May another described waiting forty minutes for a scheduled quote appointment nobody came to, with no call or message until more than a day later. The praise is real, and most of it is older. HomeAdvisor shows 4.8 from six reviews. In a 2022 review a homeowner described James Theophile assessing gutters that had not been touched in eighteen years, writing an estimate that included a veteran discount, and starting the following week; two other 2022 customers praised the same owner by name for delivering exactly what he had quoted, one of them calling the price reasonable and the work on time. A March 2025 reviewer called the crew fast and courteous and said the new gutters included a detail at the top that set them apart. Three things are worth pinning down before you sign. The company's own site claims over twenty years of experience, while both HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack list the business at five years — the first may be the owner's career rather than the company's age, so ask. Thumbtack's 5.0 rests on three reviews it says were posted outside its platform and that it cannot verify. And the BBB gives the company an A while stating plainly that it is not BBB accredited, even though HomeAdvisor lists 'BBB of Massachusetts' among its affiliations. For a straightforward gutter and guard installation from a specialist that does nothing else, this is a reasonable call. Get the workmanship warranty and the callback commitment in writing, and agree in advance how a return visit gets scheduled — that is precisely where this year's complaints landed.
Would not recommend NEGP for many reasons: - The initial job quality was terrible (see pictures), and I had to climb onto the roof myself to take the photos to have them come back and address it, which they did, but even after their revisit, it was still not a great job. I reached out again to follow-up on an assurance from the owner (Jim) that they would come out and make it right in the Summer, and despite me repeatedly contacting him over the past +2 months via phone, email, and text, I have been completely ghosted and he has not responded to any of my messages despite the texts being read. - The install team was disrespectful of the jobsite as I have found a lot of gutter screws around the property, and one morning they dumped an armful of half-empty Dunkin coffee cups into my recycling bin without my permission, the resulting mess meant I had to throw out a lot of the recycling that had been spilled on, and needed to hose out the bin itself to prevent it from reeking of stale coffee. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because Jim WAS willing to work with me in the beginning to do some value engineering to pull levers to bring the cost down using different materials, but that was the only highlight of the whole process. Also, one of the few reviews of this company is a 5-star self-review by Jim Theophile himself which feels wildly inauthentic. Absolutely avoid these guys; go with someone else.
Disrespectful and unprofessional experience. I spoke with an employee to schedule a particular time for them to arrive at our house for a quote and they did not show up. We waited 40 minutes before leaving a voicemail and text. They also did not call or send any kind of message to indicate why they didn't come when scheduled. They finally responded more than a day later with an excuse but not an apology.
I was very satisfied with service the customer service was excellent, also help with other things as well
was professional in and out and complete
Team was professional, courteous, and surprisingly fast. New gutters look and work great! No maintenance needed and they included a nice detail at the top that makes them look a cut above the rest. Very pleased with the final outcome.
