In July 2026 a Google reviewer had Norlen's Water Treatment fix a radon issue and install a kitchen reverse osmosis system, a UV system and a 3-stage filtration system, crediting Shaun and Lanny and a colleague whose name they forgot. The Orrington, Maine company describes itself on its BBB page as selling, servicing and repairing water treatment systems and water pumps, and its website says it has been in business 52 years. Its BBB grade is A+; on Google it holds 3.4 stars from 15 ratings. Shawn Phinney holds an active Maine plumber licence. In March 2024 three r/maine commenters pointed people to the company, one saying Norlens did their system in Orrington on a very rocky hill with radon. In a December 2022 review, a customer thanked Laurie for phone help and Tyler and Shawn for stopping by to go over and test the system. A March 2025 reviewer called Tim a smart, patient technician, and in July 2025 a customer said Tom and the office staff explained possible avenues for fixing their well issue. In July 2026 a one-star reviewer said they got a high, sight-unseen quote, were billed the exact quoted amount for work that took about half a day, and were told the company "go over on every quote." In October 2025 a customer said they could not set a day and time; the company calls two days before it plans to come with a window of a couple of hours. In June 2024 a customer said a system meant to solve a sulphur smell left the smell in place for a year, and another company told them it was a hard water filter. A February 2025 caller, a local contractor, said the person who answered a question about water hardness was rude.
“Third Norlens. They did our system in Orrington we live on a very rocky hill so it's all uranium this Radon that..great company!”
“Definitely call Norlens and have them check it out and spec a system.”
“Norlens in Orrington knows their shit. They should be able to hook you up with a filtration system.”
I cannot recommend Norlen’s Water Treatment enough! They recently took care of a complex setup for my home, including fixing our radon issue, installing a kitchen reverse osmosis system, a UV system, and a 3-stage filtration system. The entire experience was flawless, largely thanks to Mr. Shaun and Mr Lanny and their colleague who assisted them (I unfortunately forgot his name, but he was great too!). Shaun was incredibly hardworking, professional, and genuinely pleasant to be in his presence. I had a lot of questions and worries about our water safety, but Shaun was so patient with me. He offered clear guidance every step of the way and took the time to ease my mind. If you want the job done right by a fantastic team, ask for Shaun at Norlen's!
I received a high, sight-unseen quote before I even had the property under contract and was told it was intentionally on the high side since they hadn't seen the job yet. Despite the work taking only about half a day, I was ultimately billed the exact quoted amount, including the original labor hours and allowances. When I questioned the invoice, I was told they "go over on every quote," which didn't align with my experience. I left feeling that the estimate wasn't adjusted to reflect the actual scope of work completed.
They were a great help for a client of mine. Super thorough and helpful.
The people are nice enough but I'm not happy with the system they use. You can not set up a day and time for them to come. They tell you they will call 2 days before they plan to come and give you a window of a couple hours. Ive had to call in the past to see when they plan to come because it was taking a long time and I needed service and they told me what day they were planning to come, which was way longer than 2 days in advance. If you know what day your going to come why not tell me so I can plan? Me and my husband both work all day and the times given are during our work hours and it's hard to ask for time off only 2 days in advance.
Tom and the office staff were super helpful. They took the time to explain things, offer suggestions and possible avenues of how to fix our well issue. Kudos!!! And many thanks.
