Northeast Generator is a generator company, and it says it was founded in 1964 by Louis Holzner as a division of his electrical contracting company. Its website names a service area that includes Bridgeport, Danbury, Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan and Norwalk, and its BBB grade is A+. A recent customer whose generator ATS panel failed 10 days before closing on a home sale said Addison found a compatible unit at a reasonable price and got it installed and tested with a couple of days to spare. A recent customer who was sold a Powerwall meant to work with their solar panels first wrote that the system did not function properly, then updated the review to say that after a lot of troubleshooting the system is up and working, crediting Andrew's follow through. A 2023 customer said a storm knocked out power just after midnight on Christmas Eve 2022, that Northeast Generator was the only company that agreed to come out, and that they came after midnight and got the generator up and running. A 2025 customer said ants got into their generator's control panel, requiring it to essentially be rebuilt, and that when Northeast was done the generator was like new. A 2022 customer described a whole home generator install that involved burying a propane tank, getting wetland sign off and trenching along the side of the house, with the electricians installing the auto transfer switch and doing the cabling. A 2022 customer on the maintenance program since 2014 said a technician knew the spark plug reference number by heart and double checked their work. A recent customer who purchased a $20,000 unit said delivery did not occur on the agreed installation day after being told there was a new project manager. That customer's update says the suggested plumber did not show up on the scheduled date and the shrubs around the new generator were trimmed to a stub without consultation. A 2022 customer said it took 8 months to install their whole house generator and that they had to chase the company continually. A 2022 customer who selected Northeast in 2020 said the generator was delivered 6 months behind schedule, permits were not filed, and a different dealer finished the job. A 2023 customer said work was done outside their contract without approval, costing almost 800 dollars for an oil change and a battery.
Purchased a $20,000 unit, including service costs to replace an old generator. Details of the unit can be found below. The company certainly sent me emails to remind me of payments all of which have been made thus far in a timely fashion. It took me multiple and multiple emails and multiple calls to confirm times and date of installation as well as status updates for permitting. The day the unit was meant to be installed (which had been pre agreed to in advance), I was told that there is a new project manager and hence delivery did not occur. The unit is yet still to be installed. I will consider updating this review if the service and the product rendered warrant it. For the time being, I cannot say that I would recommend the services of this company to anyone given my experience thus far. Generator; Generac 7282 - 28/25kW Air-Cooled Standby Generator AUGUST 28TH UPDATE: - The plumber that was expected to service the gas line to complete the works - which came suggested by Northeastern - did not show up on the scheduled date and we were told about this the following day (explained it was an “emergency”) - The shrubs around the new generator where not moved and replanted as expected but rather trimmed to a stub without any prior consultation - The battery on the alarm monitor system was tripped during the installation process; the security technician is sure that the battery issue was caused because the generator technicians unplugged the alarm system. See attached picture. The plug, which says “Don’t Unplug” was in fact unplugged.
Further updated: after a lot of work and trouble shooting on NEG’s end, our system is up and working and we are so happy and fascinated by the whole system. It was a complex project and we appreciate the tireless follow through from Andrew to get our system working! So happy with it and it is incredible to see it all working! Thank you! Update: NEG has been very responsive and working with us to resolve the issue. Communication and problem solving has been fantastic. Extremely dissatisfied with the communication and job that was done at our home. NEG sold us on a powerwall that was supposed to work with our solar panels and that has not been the case. It has been months and it’s rare that they return calls or emails and after spending a ton of money, we still have a system that does not function properly. What was promised has not been delivered even after they have come out. In all, the system is not working and they are not taking responsibility for it.
We have relied on Northeast Generator for 14 years and their service, pricing and fairness is excellent. We recently sold our home and the generator ATS panel failed 10 days before closing. NE and in particular, Addison, went out of his way to find and secure a compatible unit at a reasonable price and got it installed and tested with a couple of days to spare. I would definitely use them for generator related needs especially since I've heard horror stories from friends who went with other providers.
Very nice people. Technicians are always friendly and very helpful.
I have been relying on NEG for the past year or so, after having a poor experience with a local company. The NEG did an initial annual check-up and maintenance in the spring, followed by a battery replacement and yesterday another troubleshoot with a voltage regulator. First of all, they are super prompt and they will dispatch a tech within days at most, usually 24-48 hours. In my case, Scott has been the tech coming over which is nice as he knows the generator in and out, and it's nice getting to know the person coming to your house. Even my dog got super friendly with him and seems to love Scott so it's nice to have the same tech providing support and assistance.Second, the company really tries to work with the customer, and Max has been very accommodating and helpful with everything. He's always easy to reach and responsive when he's not available over the phone. All in all, NEG is a goo and reputable company that I look forward to working with in the future.
