Octagon Construction & Energy describes itself as a reconstruction contractor in Maine and New Hampshire, focused on rebuilding homes after structural damage. Todd and his crew replaced a deck at one customer's home, and that customer went on to recommend him to their HOA. On a different job, the crew replaced deck boards on multiple decks along with stairs, worked all day on some hot days and kept a very neat worksite; that customer said Todd provided updates and pictures of progress. A customer whose tenants needed a bathroom rebuilt said Chris made very little effort to communicate or get back to them, and they ended up going elsewhere. A homeowner rebuilding after a flood said work that should have taken 6 to 8 weeks dragged on for 5 months. That homeowner described sheetrock cut crooked, self-leveler mixed wrong and a toilet drain filled with self-leveler that required a jack hammer and pipe replacement job. The same homeowner said Octagon hired other professionals to fix the plumbing and cover the basement in new vinyl click flooring, and wrote that they would not hire Octagon.
Terrible experience. Chris just did not care about my business, or the fact my tenants needed their bathroom rebuilt, and made it clear with very little effort to communicate or get back on anything. Ended up having to go elsewhere. Octagon did fine with water mitigation and restoration side of things however.
A very professional and well run company. As a general contractor they managed their subcontractors well, provided timely communications, and were quick to respond and resolve any issues that came up. We had a major water leak disaster in our condominium building and fortunately one of the owners referred us to Octagon Restoration and Cleaning. Their project manager was excellent in dealing with all aspects of a complicated clean up and restoration job and made himself available at all times.
Todd and his crew were incredibly responsive, timely, professional and skilled when replacing a deck at my home. I ended up recommending him to our HOA and they have done extensive, quality and efficient work on our property this summer. Prior to hiring Octagon Construction I had called three contractors - none have ever called back. I can’t speak highly enough of the communication and quality work of Todd and his team - it made the process incredibly easy and stress- free.
Todd was great to work with and very responsive to questions as well as providing updates and pictures of progress. The crew replaced deck boards on multiple decks as well as replacement stairs. The crew worked all day on some pretty hot days and made good progress with a high quality result. They kept a very neat worksite and communicated problems uncovered well. We hired professionals to do quality work and that is what we received. Would absolutely work with them again!
SLIPSHOD HACKS The Octagon Cleaning and Restoration and the Octagon Construction and Energy Companies severely lack the education, training, skills, and competency, craftsmanship, communication and pride to clean, restore, and rebuild after a flood. What should have taken 6 to 8 weeks dragged on for 5 months! The only part of the company that did a superior job were the ones who did just the cleaning and the mold and mildew remediation. The demolition crew did such a terrible hack and chop job. They were completely derelict and irresponsible. They were completely unaware of all OSHA Regulations regarding demolition of building debris infiltrated by mold and mildew. They did not protect us, themselves, or our home. They destroyed numerous furnishings and home goods as they did not move all of our stuff out to the massive 2 bay truck garage that was at their complete disposal. No safety equipment or PPE was being utilized, even though they had that equipment in our garage. This critical oversight further damaged our home and compromised our health. We even had to have a Hepa 500 machine upstairs for months! They were completely incompetent, inept, and had a bad homesite manner. The remodel/rebuild crew were a complete slapdash nightmare! They created such a destructive chaotic mess in our basement. Sheetrock was cut crooked, some of the rock was damaged, outlets were hacked and it was obvious nobody could read a tape measure. They did not know how to remove and reinstall a toilet and sink vanity cabinet. They walled in the plumbing with the new rock, so they had to rip it back out to unbury the plumbing. When they leveled the floor they mixed the self leveler wrong and used it anyway. It cured improperly and dried with poc marks and weep holes as they just splashed it on creating peaks and valleys, they even filled the toilet drain with self leveler, which required a 9 hour jack hammer and pipe replacement job! They put the epoxy paint over it to try to hide everything but they just poured, splashed and rolled the epoxy paint all pell mell with complete and utter carelessness, it got on the woodstove, the new sheetrock, and the new baseboard, which should NOT of been put on until AFTER the epoxy paint dried and cured. They dragged our washer and dryer across the new epoxied floor and gouged it. When we went to use our washer and dryer again we discovered the entire basement sweating and dripping in condensation, they failed to hook up the dryer exhaust pipe, causing a wet disgusting mess. Our basement looked absolutely terrible! There were a couple times they left the hose running all day in the backyard, even after they left, compounding our flooding. There were many times nobody showed up to do the work and our home was completely insecure and vulnerable. When they did show up they only would work 4 or 5 hour work days, due to their inebriation on the job. There were so many delays, stoppages, and reassessment due to all the mistakes, mishaps, and dereliction. The only individuals that were outstanding and competent throughout were Brad, one of the owners, who always communicated with us, sometimes daily, Alex who was the construction project manager, who was in way over his head with the work crews that he had to manage, and Diane, the cleaning and remediation crew chief, who was an extremely hard worker, supervisor, and paid attention to detail and did not stop working until the job was done. In the end, Octagon was so horrified about the job that their crews had done, that they refused to put their name and stamp of approval on it. They externally hired other professionals to fix all the plumbing and have the entire basement covered in a new waterproof vinyl click flooring, which Alex personally delivered on himself. At that point, what choice did we have? I would NOT hire Octagon. Hire teams of vetted trusted contractors. You may pay more, but at least it would get done right and on time. You be the judge
