A 2023 BusinessWest profile caught Nick Pandolfi at the moment he jumped: state groundskeeper at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam by day, hardscape installer — patios, retaining walls, sidewalks — on nights and weekends, until the side work became the whole thing. What it grew into is a design-and-build outfit whose reviews read less like service calls and more like projects. A September 2025 customer listed the scope in one breath: pool patio, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, a waterfall into the pool with a fire feature, a fountain in the front landscape, a new walk from driveway to door, all of it picked out with low-voltage lighting. A July 2025 client had a deck demoed, a paver patio installed with plantings and grading done to fix a drainage problem on a hillside lot, and singled out the design documents and diagrams and how cleanly the proposal and invoicing side ran. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 204786, is active in the state registry under the company's own name. It calls itself a certified SRW installer and a certified Techo Pro installer — its own claims — and describes itself as a small, family-owned business Nick built to support his young family. The stated service area is wide, running from Hampden County across western Massachusetts and into northern Connecticut, and customers bear that out: a 2023 homeowner had a Soake plunge pool installed at a Connecticut house, with the office manager handling that town's permits and inspections. Google sits at 4.8 across 18 ratings. The one dissent is about getting to a quote, not the finished work. A July 2025 reviewer waited two weeks for a site visit, liked the ideas and the vision, was told the estimate would take another two weeks, and after those two weeks still had no estimate. It stands alone in the record, and it is worth naming because that is the stage most people meet first. Two more things to square before hiring. The BBB profile is unclaimed and unaccredited with no rating, and it records the business as starting in April 2018 — eight years — while the site talks about decades of experience. If you are planning a patio, a retaining wall or a full backyard build in western Massachusetts or north-central Connecticut, this is a licensed crew that clearly does that scale of work; get a firm estimate date in writing and hold them to it.
“He had a day job —working for the state as groundskeeper for the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. But he had a side hustle, if you will, on nights and weekends, doing hardscape installation work such as patios, retaining walls, sidewalks, and more.”
“Nick and his guys did a fantastic job installing a Soake plunge pool at our house in Connecticut.”
Nick and his team (Dan and Don) were amazing. The communication and timeliness of the job was on point. Pandolfi Landscapes put the pool patio in, built an outdoor kitchen, installed a fire pit as well a water fall into the pool with a fire feature. They also constructed a fountain area in my front landscape with a beautiful sidewalk to get from the driveway to the front door. All of this was highlighted with low voltage lighting. We could not be more pleased.
Pandolfi Landscaping did an absolutely amazing job on our new patio and firepit! From start to finish, the entire team was polite, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Nick stayed in constant communication throughout the project, keeping us updated every step of the way. He even went above and beyond by coordinating with our gas company and plumber to make sure everything went smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with the end result. It’s beautiful, functional, and exactly what we envisioned. Highly recommend!
Nick and his crew did an absolute amazing job on my retaining wall and patio. Price was great for the quality of work! Will definitely use again for my future projects
Based on their reviews, I was looking forward to meeting with Nick and getting an estimate on my replacement patio. Unfortunately, things did not go as I had hoped. I did wait two weeks for Nick to come out, but I liked his ideas and his vision. I had a design and stone already picked out and the job would be able to be completed as I had hoped. However, he told me that my estimate would not be completed for two weeks, which was very disappointing. I was clear with him what my financial parameters were and what I would not pay. After two weeks, no estimate. I called him and he told me it would be an another week for my estimate. So three weeks out. This concerned me because jobs are being done to get the money in, but no time for estimates to be completed. When I finally got the estimate it was way over my budget by 6 K dollars. A few days later, I received an email from Nick asking If I got the estimate and if I reviewed it. I called him and told him that it was way too much for me to justify paying for my job and that I had been clear with him about the pricing when we met. He was filled with apologies and said, just give me 24 to 48 hours and you will have a new estimate, I promise. Well it’s been a month later and no estimate or phone call. My job was not a big job. It was not a large patio. I believe that had a large impact on his not interested in completing it. Otherwise, he would have been more expeditious in taking the job. Customer service and consistency is key for me. Unprofessionalism is not what I am looking for and have moved on at this point.
Nick and his team demoed an existing deck, installed a paver patio complete with plantings, and completed grading work to address a drainage issue at our house. They produced high quality design documents and diagrams for us, and management of the "admin" side of the project was seamless through their proposal and invoicing software. For the project itself, they took care to involve us in design decisions, used high quality materials throughout, and generally did things the "right" way/ did not cut corners. Our house is built on a hillside, which makes it very challenging to move equipment and materials on a good day - throw in some some bad luck with weather and it makes it all the more difficult. Nick and his team navigated these hurdles with the utmost professionalism. They worked hard every day they were here, and communication was excellent from estimate through post-project clean-up and check-ins. We were beyond impressed, and would recommend Pandolfi Landscape Construction to anyone.
