Pat's Handyman Service has a written history that's short but consistent, and consistently bad: five reviews across five years, from 2016 to 2021, describe the same basic pattern — a deposit collected upfront, then a stretch of excuses, and either unfinished or shoddy work. Three separate reviews, dated 2017, 2017, and 2020, describe deposits ranging from $120 to $225 collected for door installation, window replacement, and wood rot repair, followed by the contractor going quiet or stringing the customer along with excuses; one reviewer describes chasing Pat for weeks over a window that was only ever covered with a sheet of plexiglass, never actually replaced. A 2021 review describes the same pattern with a closet door: a deposit taken, the door delivered, then no return visit and a refusal to refund the "non-refundable" deposit. A 2016 review, for storm-door and lock work that was completed, describes it as rushed and shabby, with a door left gapping badly enough that it had to be hooked shut. Google shows 1.8 stars from 9 ratings, in line with what the written reviews describe. There's no indication here of licensing, insurance, or any resolution to the specific complaints — with a track record this consistent, spanning multiple years and multiple independent customers, this isn't a business to hand a deposit to without a lot more assurance in writing.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from pat's handyman service. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Beware! I Asked Pat to install a closet door . Seemed like a nice guy. He asked for a deposit upfront. After delivering the door, he found all kids of reasons not to come back. Other jobs, falling off a ladder. I asked for the deposit back. He said it was non refundable. I asked what he thought was fair. He said half. Then he found all kids of reasons not to return the deposit. He was busy, in CT. He then blocked my phone number so I couldn't reach him. He is a scammer. Beware. I should have read the reviews before contacting him.
Pat quickly removed and replaced rotten wood under my front and sliding doors when I contacted him this past August. It was after signing a 2nd contract with him days later that I wished I had read reviews here on him. After collecting a $120 deposit from me, he gave one excuse after the other when I contacted him to do the job. He showed up one day with a ladder that couldn’t do the job. And that would be the last time I would see or hear him. He stopped answering my text messages and calls and I ended up paying another person to do the job. Pat succeeded in being $120.00 richer at my expense without doing the job he contracted to do.
More than a year ago I needed a door and window replaced at my 3 family house. Pat required a $225 deposit for the materials. He screwed a plexiglass piece over the window and never replaced the door. For weeks i chased Pat to get the job done, but he kept giving excuses and never showed. I eventually hired someone else and never received my money back.
Pat seemed like a good guy to have work done around the house but right now I think he's dropped off the face of the earth with my money - I paid half up front for some wood repairs on the side of my house to retrim around the windows and siding but all I've got is excuses and it's been about 3 months now and still no Pat, now he's not answering my calls or texts so I'm assuming he's either dead or I've been scammed. Wish I had been more cautious about hiring him but next time I'll have to do more research. As it is I'll have to chase him down for my money and then pay someone else to do the work for me 😖
My wife asked to weatherproof the doors and new lock ,storm door has huge gaps, Lock, deadbolt done shabby and blamed the door,in a rush to finish soon as he arrived. house refinishing potential nightmare Storm door now has to be hooked to stay shut. You get what you pay for I guess my 2 star rating Is being several others online said never again . Look for AAA rated elsewhere.
