Paul John and Son Roofing is a small Woburn shop that has carved out a niche in copper, slate and cedar roofing — the kind of specialty work most roofers subcontract out. Owner Nelson DaSilva runs an in-house copper shop that hand-fabricates standing-seam roofing, cupolas, chimney caps and architectural sheet metal, alongside more everyday asphalt replacements and same-day emergency leak repairs across Greater Boston. The review history backs that up. Twenty Google reviews, all five stars, with eighteen posted in the last six months and none negative — and the specifics keep repeating: a full roof replacement finished in one day with the dumpster gone the next morning; copper gutters and slate repair with a budget that held even after extra work turned up; a rubber-roof leak under a Somerville condo deck that traced back to a previous developer's bad flashing, which the crew fixed by disassembling and rebuilding the deck rather than patching around it. Several reviewers single out the same thing — a fast callback on a weekend leak, a repair finished within days. Two much older Angi reviews, from 2008 and 2011, describe the same pattern of quick estimate turnaround and thorough clean-up, so the reputation for responsiveness isn't a recent development. The company is A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau, though it isn't BBB-accredited. It also lists a 2019 NACIA award and a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster credential dating to 2016. One thing worth asking about directly: the state registry shows the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#179575) has expired. That's worth clarifying before signing anything, along with proof of current insurance. For a straightforward asphalt reroof or a tricky copper or slate repair on an older or historic home, this is a shop with a real specialty and a deep, consistently positive record behind it — just confirm the paperwork is current first.
This company was great from estimate to finish. The materials/dumpster was delivered day before. The crew worked like a well-oiled machine to replace our roof, in one day. Clean-up was amazing. Next day dumpster was removed. Came after to check for nails under the dumpster and the property. Will be back in one year to make sure all good! Highly recommend!!
VERY responsive, reasonably priced, and clearly professional at their work. I also appreciate that I never got the 'run around' from dopey bots when I contacted them.
Paul John and Son did some repair work to my slate roof and installed new copper gutters on my entire house. They did a great job! They were easy to communicate with throughout the project, their budget proposal was accurate and honored (even though they ended up doing some additional unexpected work for us), their team on site was very professional and nice to work with, and the finished project looks and functions great!
They were very friendly and professional. Very responsive and they did a fantastic job. I highly recommend them for any of your roofing needs.
Had snow dams melted, Nelson was very knowledgeable and the service was well executed for a fair price
