Matriarch Construction is a women-owned design-renovate-build contractor founded and run by Nicole Brietzke, with its office on Swanton Street in Winchester and, by the company's own account, work across Boston, the North and South Shores and MetroWest. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 208440, is active on the state registry. Kitchens and baths are the spine of what customers wrote. A December 2023 client had a kitchen and two bathrooms remodeled; an August 2025 first-time renovator said the kitchen was handled within the original timeline the company had given. The same names come up again and again — Lori, Amanda, Justin and Nicole — in five separate accounts between December 2023 and March 2026, which counts for something when you are handing a team the keys. A June 2026 reviewer points people to them for kitchens, baths and remodels and for carrying a project from design through build. They also take the bigger, messier work. A March 2024 homeowner had the basement finished with custom built-ins, a bathroom and its own heated and cooled zone, inside the time frame quoted. An August 2025 Houzz reviewer needed the whole second floor renovated after a major leak within a year of buying their first home, and a February 2024 customer moved out of the house for over a month for an extensive renovation. Houzz puts a typical job at $40,000 to $2 million, so this is not the outfit for a small repair. The thing to settle upfront is money and meetings. On an August 2025 basement remodel — a $90,000 job, per Angi — costs rose about 10% over the estimate, and the weekly progress meetings the builder promised did not happen; that customer still called the finished product professional and well-built and said they were happy at the end. Other clients describe the opposite cadence: daily emails on progress and upcoming meetings on that December 2023 kitchen-and-baths job, and weekly sit-downs with Lori, Nicole and Amanda on a January 2024 kitchen and bath remodel. For a kitchen, a bath or a basement you want designed and built by one team, this is a straightforward call, and a 2024 commenter in the r/SalemMA subreddit recommended their work as well. Get the meeting schedule and the change-order process written into the contract, and ask what drove the 10% on that basement job before you sign.

This company did the renovation for my grandmother’s bathroom, she was having a very hard time getting in and out of the bathtub, and these ladies came in and got it one and done in a day with one of the most professional cruise I have ever seen for a construction job. Not only that but Lori herself was an absolute doll. I couldn’t have asked for better service in the job was just gorgeous. I will never be going to another construction company again for any maintenance whether it be bigger or small. These ladies will do the job 10 times better than any man.
Within a year of purchasing our first home, we had a major leak that resulted in us needing to renovate the entire second floor. I had already done some of the leg work to find individual teams for the beginning of the work we needed done but quickly realized I needed help. I wanted to find a woman-owned GC company that I could trust and would help guide me thru the process. Lori, Justin, Nicole and team did an amazing job from start to finish. They were able to work with my budget with transparency and honesty and the communication was excellent. The team was prompt, worked well within the time frame and was there every step I needed them. The work was great and anything we may have noticed was immediately addressed. We've already had some other minor things go wrong with the rest of the house and they are fantastic with connecting me with the right people. We loved them so much we're in the process of doing a bathroom reno with them! 10/10 will definitely use again (for all of our upcoming projects... and there are lots!)
As a first-timer for a big renovation project (kitchen), I was nervous about the process. Lori, Amanda, and Justin from Matriarch were amazing collaborators and ensured that everything - large and small - was taken care of all within the original timeline they gave for the project. I was particularly (and pleasantly) surprised by the level of communication from the team - always responding within hours and being clear and honest, even when it was about unexpected challenges. I also appreciated the consideration they had for our budget and never tried to "upsell" us on anything, while also ensuring we ended up with really great quality.
