Penswick Fine Finishes is a Boston-based painting company built around Robert Penswick, who started the business in 2000 after learning the trade from his painter father and working briefly in Boston and the San Francisco Bay Area. The company describes itself as serving Eastern Massachusetts, including the Boston area, Metro West, the North and South Shores, and Cape Cod, and states it has been Fine Paints of Europe certified since 2016 for high-gloss finish work. Eleven reviews on Houzz, all five stars, back that reputation with unusually long relationships and specific project detail. Several clients describe hiring Penswick repeatedly over a decade or more: one says the company painted both the interior and exterior of their house over ten years, another calls it their go-to painter for over fifteen years, and a third has used the crew across three different homes over four years. The work described goes beyond routine painting — one client hired Rob to restore windows on an 1872 Civil War memorial building, matching decades-old stain and sash detailing, and another describes a repair paint job after a leak where the existing paint was matched so precisely the damage was undetectable. Two of the most detailed endorsements come from industry professionals rather than homeowners: an interior designer in the Greater Boston area calls Penswick her go-to for detailed molding, crown, and paneling work, and a builder/cabinetmaker on the South Shore says he relies on the crew to deliver quality work while balancing cost and schedule on his own projects. Reviewers repeatedly mention crews wearing shoe covers, vacuuming daily, and keeping detailed time sheets left at the house. What's worth confirming before booking: most of the detailed customer feedback on file dates to 2015 and 2016, so it's fair to ask about current crew size, pricing, and scheduling availability directly. The Houzz profile also lists a broad menu beyond core painting — cabinet refinishing, epoxy flooring, wallpaper installation and removal, plaster and drywall repair, and pressure washing — worth confirming for scope on any given project. Penswick looks like a strong fit for homeowners and design/build professionals who want a painter comfortable with historic detail work, custom finishes, and high-end interiors, and who value a crew that has kept long-term repeat clients rather than one-off jobs.

Penswick Fine Finishes, headed up by Rob Penswick, has painted both the exterior and interior of my house over the last 10 years. I cannot say enough about the professionalism of Rob and his team and the excellent quality of their work. Here you will find a very experienced painting team where each painter truly cares about and takes pride in the work that he does. This goes beyond just the excellent quality of the prep and painting, but also includes the care they take in leaving your house clean by wearing shoe covers while in the house and thoroughly vacuuming the work areas at the end of each day. Rob and his team are very respectful and I felt completely comfortable having them in my home. Rob charges time and materials for the work and keeps detailed time sheets for each painter, which he leaves at the house. Rob is also very knowledgeable about paint and painting technology, always looking to provide the very best outcome for any job that he does. If you care about the end result of a painting job, along with the process involved in getting there, I know of no better painting team than Penswick Fine Finishes.
Rob Penswick did repair paint job following a bad leak in my town house. He matched existing paints perfectly. One would never know that there had been damage. His work was meticulous and efficient. He has also done work on new construction in a renovated house for us and works beautifully with the contractors as well as with us.
Rob worked on the window restoration project at our 1872 Civil War Memorial building. He is a true professional and great to work with. His attention to detail, from coming up with matches for the old stains, to his careful treatment of the old sash produced the highest quality result. His painting was fantastic and he was always conscientious about keeping in touch re: his scheduling. We are extremely pleased with the end result.
I have used Penswick Fine Finishes at three different homes over the course of the last four years. I highly recommend them. The quality of their work is top notch. They are responsive, on-time, careful and friendly. I am comfortable providing them access to my home when I am not around and know that they will treat it with the same respect that they treat their own homes. Rob and Corey are honest and hard-working and it is always a pleasure to interact with them and the rest of their employees. While their price is not the lowest, I have always felt it is fair and commensurate with the quality of the work performed. I prefer to work with them on an hourly basis and have always felt that they charged me exactly for the hours worked. I know they are also willing to work on a fixed fee basis as well. I don't give 5 stars very easily, but it was a no brainer to give that rating to Penswick Fine Finishes
Very professional, meticulous, respectful and prompt. Painted almost the entire interior of our home and were the most unobtrusive and dedicated professionals we have ever employed. Provided quotes quickly and were on target with no variations. Started and completed project on dates and times promised. Would highly recommend and definitely use again for future projects.
