Bob Phalan works alone, and that's the whole shape of this business: one Framingham carpenter who shows up, builds the thing that doesn't come off a shelf, and cleans up before he leaves. Across 307 ratings on Angi he sits at 4.9, with 96% of them five stars; Porch carries a parallel 4.85 from 455 ratings. BBB lists the LLC at 15 Hearth St in Framingham with one employee and an A+ grade, though the company is not BBB accredited. The work people describe is carpentry first, handyman second. In an August 2025 review a homeowner wrote about a bulkhead basement door on a 100-year-old house: no stock door fit, so he built the doors himself, added new basement stairs, and poured concrete to shore up the opening. Another that month described a busted hinge on a heavy solid-wood exterior door rebuilt in about half an hour. A September 2025 customer had him solve a revolving corner-cabinet shelf that had stopped turning. That pattern — the odd-sized, the out-of-square, the thing a supplier can't quote — comes up again and again. The repeat-hire rate is the other thing worth noticing. Customers writing in August 2025 counted three separate jobs, four years of projects, and three-to-four years of using him as their go-to. In October 2025 one listed cedar siding, wood gutter repair, exterior doors and railings across years of work on the same old house. The most recent jobs are quieter and smaller: two exhaust hoods installed in June 2026, a kitchen cabinet install in May 2026 for a family member's remodel. Two things to pin down before calling. The tenure claims don't line up: BBB records the LLC as started in February 2018, while Porch states 38 years in business — plausibly the difference between the man's career and the company's incorporation, but worth asking. And the licence credentials come from Angi's own listing, not a state registry check: Angi shows CSL and HIC affiliations plus trade licence CS-057693 with a 01/14/2028 expiration. Ask to see those cards directly if your project needs them. He's the right call for the accumulating list — the doors that stick, the rotted trim, the stairs that need building — and for owners of older houses where nothing is standard. He's one person, so scheduling is the real constraint; get on the calendar early, and expect the job done by the same hands that quoted it.
Bob did a great job installing the two exhaust hoods I needed done.
I've used Angi for 15+ years so it was important I hired someone with a lot of high quality ratings. I was also remodeling the kitchen for a family member who just came off long term medical treatments so I needed someone I could trust. Bob was great from start to finish. I found it easy to communicate with him via the Angi system, text, email or phone. He was always replying quickly. When time came for scheduling the job he was flexible with dates and time and he was clear and easy to understand on his costs. When the job started he was punctual, very pleasant to work with, he communicated throughout the 2.5 day job, was always highly professional, and as a result we loved the end product. I would recommend everyone consider Bob for their future projects.
Bob has done numerous projects for our old house over the years mainly carpentry, and most recently to replace cedar siding on a large area of the house. Bob does excellent carpentry and finish work and is an extremely hard worker. He has also done wood gutter repair, cleaning and sealing, hung exterior doors and installed exterior wood railings for us. The various projects have involved a significant amount of high exterior painting. He has a wide range of skills and excellent problem-solving ability. Because of this history, we have a lot of trust that Bob will do an excellent job at whatever project he accepts.
Bob installed pegboard on the interior walls of our shed. He did a wonderful job. Before starting, Bob offered several options on how to install the material, which we then discussed, before agreeing on one. The work was done correctly and efficiently. Bob is a skilled and knowledgeable carpenter and pays attention to details. It was a pleasure to work with Bob and we expect to do so again on future projects.
We hired Bob for the second time after having a very positive experience with him the first time around. We collected a number of tasks for him to repair, including: Rot in the front door frame, diagnosing some leakage issues that we had in the basement, repairing additional exterior rot and repairing / cleaning our dryer vent. As always, Bob handled them methodically and exceptionally. Great quality of work which also successfully stopped the leaks in our basement. Would recommend him again in a heartbeat
