Bob Phalan is the handyman people keep a list for. His Framingham business, Phalan Construction & The Handyman, says it has 31 years in business doing handyman, carpentry, remodeling, repair, roofing and siding work around MetroWest, and the company's site says Bob runs it. It holds 5.0 stars from 308 ratings on Angi and 4.8 from 455 on Porch. The reviews read like punch lists. An August 2025 customer first hired Bob for a fence post, a back door and a basement window, then for a bulkhead replacement on a 100-year-old house, where he built the doors, new stairs to the basement and concrete work to shore up the opening, proposing approaches that stayed within their budget. A September 2025 reviewer said he found a way to custom fit a screen door to an opening the stock doors were too large for. Another September 2025 customer said his repairs stopped leaks in their basement. In an August 2025 review, a heavy exterior door on a second-floor deck was working again in about 30 minutes after he rebuilt the busted hinge. A May 2026 customer said he communicated throughout a 2.5 day kitchen job and was clear about his costs. Angi lists trade license CS-057693 for the business, and the company's site cites a construction supervisors license.
Bob did a great job installing the two exhaust hoods I needed done.
I've used Angi for 15+ years so it was important I hired someone with a lot of high quality ratings. I was also remodeling the kitchen for a family member who just came off long term medical treatments so I needed someone I could trust. Bob was great from start to finish. I found it easy to communicate with him via the Angi system, text, email or phone. He was always replying quickly. When time came for scheduling the job he was flexible with dates and time and he was clear and easy to understand on his costs. When the job started he was punctual, very pleasant to work with, he communicated throughout the 2.5 day job, was always highly professional, and as a result we loved the end product. I would recommend everyone consider Bob for their future projects.
Bob has done numerous projects for our old house over the years mainly carpentry, and most recently to replace cedar siding on a large area of the house. Bob does excellent carpentry and finish work and is an extremely hard worker. He has also done wood gutter repair, cleaning and sealing, hung exterior doors and installed exterior wood railings for us. The various projects have involved a significant amount of high exterior painting. He has a wide range of skills and excellent problem-solving ability. Because of this history, we have a lot of trust that Bob will do an excellent job at whatever project he accepts.
The work was done thoughtfully and expeditiously
Bob tackled a particularly tricky replacement of a revolving shelf unit in an under counter kitchen cabinet. He came up with a unique solution that not only replaced the shelves but also resulted in smoother operation. He also replaced an exterior screen door that had been damaged by a wind storm. Because of the age of the house, the available doors were too large to fit the existing opening. Once again Bob was able to design a solution to custom fit the door. We are quite pleased with the quality of his workmanship.
