Powell Painting and Home Services, based in East Walpole and run by owner Bryan Powell, has built a reputation as much for what happens before the paint goes on as for the paint itself — homeowner after homeowner describes a crew that found and fixed rot, water damage, and old carpentry problems as part of the job. On Google alone the company holds 5★ across 216 ratings, backed by 5.0★ on Houzz (44 ratings) and 4.9★ on Angi (66 ratings). The carpentry side shows up constantly in the written record. One homeowner's antique 1907 house needed rotted wood tackled and antique trim moulding matched; another's seven-year-old house had extensive, premature trim rot repaired and replaced with PVC panels before the exterior repaint; a third hired Powell for gutters removed, trim boards fixed, and cedar shingles replaced alongside a full house painting. More than one review describes the crew finding water damage mid-project and fixing the underlying problem rather than just painting over it. Beyond full-house jobs, Powell is regularly hired for scoped-down work too — kitchen cabinet refinishing that homeowners say transformed the room, deck cleaning, repair, and staining, and bathroom repaints worked carefully around existing fixtures. Communication is the other throughline: Bryan or project manager Andre checking in, often daily, comes up across dozens of reviews spanning 2023 to 2026. The record isn't spotless. A February 2025 Angi review is sharply negative, calling the paint job's walls poor quality and saying another contractor would be needed to fix it — a striking outlier against dozens of five-star accounts on the same platforms. A 2024 Google review, five stars overall, still flagged that the crew wasn't always thorough about removing masking tape and paper before leaving. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license is verified active, and its BBB profile shows an A+ grade as an accredited business. For a bigger job that blends painting with carpentry and rot repair — an older house needing some structural TLC alongside the paint — Powell's record supports that combination well; ask what the punch-list/cleanup process looks like before signing off.
We just had Powell repair and paint the exterior of our home, and are delighted with both the customer service and the results. The carpentry is expert and exactly what we were looking for, and the painting is excellent quality. Andre (project manager) checked in with me twice a day to ensure the project was on track, met all of our expectations, and answered any questions. Mauricio did really beautiful work, and the whole project was completed well within the timelines. We would highly recommend Powell.
We had an outstanding experience with Bryan and his team. From the very start, they took our project seriously, going above and beyond to address a trouble area where we had some water damage. Instead of just painting over it, they took the extra steps to get to the root of the issue and ensure everything was properly repaired before painting. The team was incredibly accommodating and professional. They amended the contract to close up our gable vents and add soffit vents, and they even allowed us to use paint from two different providers so we could get the exact custom color we wanted for our door. Bryan was a true partner in the process, providing valuable insight into popular color trends and helping us select the best colors that would complement our windows, which we couldn't paint. Their expertise and attention to detail made a huge difference in the final result. We are 100% happy with their work and would use them again in a heartbeat. We've already recommended them to several friends and family members. If you're looking for a painting company that is professional, meticulous, and genuinely cares about the quality of their work, look no further.

Powell Painting did a great job on my antique home (circa 1907). The home had several carpentry needs (rotted wood, etc.) from years of neglect which Powell's team tackled with ease - and they were able to match the antique trim moulding. The home looks fantastic now. The guys (Serpa was awesome to work with!) were on-time every day, did a fantastic job cleaning up each day (which my neighbors commented / complimented them on!), were always professional, and were extremely skilled. A++ Service from Powell, I would highly recommend them.
Powell Painting did an excellent job on my 105-year old house. They undertook some much-needed carpentry work that blended seamlessly with the architecture, and executed very detail-oriented paintwork to highlight my house's unique character. They worked incredibly fast and were so thorough. I cannot recommend Powell Painting (and team) enough!!
