Prescott Landscaping has been working out of Shirley, Massachusetts since 1986, according to the company's own site — a claim Better Business Bureau records back up, listing the same 1/1/1986 start date under owner Robert Prescott Jr. Nearly four decades in, the business still centers on the fundamentals: mowing and lawn care, sod and hydroseeded lawn installs, spring and fall cleanups, and sprinkler-system winterizing and startup, plus hardscape work — walkways, patios, retaining walls, and brick and stone construction — across a swath of north-central Massachusetts towns from Acton to Westford. The written record runs deep for a business this size: 21 reviews dated between 2017 and 2025 across Google and HomeAdvisor. The bulk of it, written between 2017 and 2020, keeps returning to the same theme — owner Bob personally staying in the loop. In a 2017 review, a customer described him communicating by email around a demanding work schedule and updating them through weather delays; in a 2019 review, another said his crew completely overhauled a front yard (mulch, transplanted flowers, a new hydroseeded lawn, even a shed foundation dug out) while he checked in on the workers and kept the homeowner posted. More recently, a 2023 review called the finished product above expectations with a spotless worksite, and a 2024 review praised the crew's speed and called Bob himself helpful and knowledgeable. Google shows a 4.7-star average from 10 ratings and HomeAdvisor 4.5 from 18, both in line with that pattern. The record isn't spotless, though, and the exceptions are worth knowing about. A 2019 review described a payment dispute — the customer felt pressured to pay before a repair was finished, and said the crew missed a scheduled appointment without contacting them. A 2020 review complained about a poorly carpentered slider installation. And a 2024 review described a shrub-trimming job that took the shrubs down to bare sticks, well past what the reviewer called the normal 30-percent rule for pruning. None of these repeat as a pattern in the rest of the record, but each is specific enough to raise directly if the job touches payment terms, carpentry, or pruning. The business's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and verified, and it carries an A+ grade with the Better Business Bureau with no complaints or actions on record there. One scope limit to know: snow removal is offered only to business clients on the company's own site, not residential driveways. For lawn care, planting, and hardscape work in this part of Massachusetts, Prescott Landscaping has a long, mostly consistent track record — just confirm scope and pricing in writing before work starts, especially for pruning or carpentry-adjacent jobs.
Outstanding lawn care service
They sent a crew to my apartment complex to do some weeding and pruning. They pulled out all the flowers and they scalped all the shrubs so far back that there are mainly only sticks with a few leaves left. Anyone who knows anything about pruning knows not to remove more than 30 percent of the shrub. They took more than 70 percent and they made everything look ugly.
Great business and professional landscaping. The guys work hard and the owner Bob is a very helpful and knowledgeable guy. Fast and efficient. Thanks for a superclean yard.
Finished product was above and beyond expectation. Professional, friendly and left a spotless worksite.
Prompt service, good job, and the grass is growing like gangbusters.
