Puraqua Pool Service is a Waltham inground-pool contractor that says it's been building and servicing pools for over 45 years — gunite and vinyl-liner construction alongside a full-service arm covering weekly maintenance, openings and closings, leak detection, and renovation work like resurfacing and liner replacement. The site also lists authorizations as an Aquavac repair center, an SR Smith handicap-lift installer, and a Wet Edge pebble/quartz finishes dealer. Reviewers most often name Dave, David, Ken, and Justin, and the strongest praise centers on installs and openings that go smoothly under pressure — Dave personally showing up for a condo-association pool inspection without a reminder. A 2021 review of a gunite pool install credits Justin's crew with the plumbing and equipment work and a same-day motor swap after a pump failure. A 2024 review from a 6-year customer describes on-time openings, thorough cleanup, and being taught self-maintenance tips; a 2023 customer says a chlorine-system upgrade and a full re-plaster and re-tile job weren't cheap but were delivered on time at the quoted price. But the record also carries a real run of serious complaints. In a 2022 review, a customer says Puraqua charged her twice for a leak it never found and then sued her over the bill, calling the pricing "thru the roof" and the internal communication poor. A 2026 review describes a technician arriving without the tools to finish a scheduled opening, followed by a confrontational exchange with Dave over it. A 2025 review says a technician lost parts and left a system disassembled, and nine follow-up calls went unreturned. A 2023 review accuses the company of billing for work not performed and not quoting rates before charging. Before booking, get a firm, written price up front and confirm exactly what a visit will cover — the complaints that recur most are about pricing surprises and slow follow-through when something goes wrong, not the quality of a completed install. Puraqua looks like a strong fit for a full pool build or a planned renovation project where the scope is defined in advance; the bigger risk shows up on ad hoc service calls where the numbers aren't pinned down first.
They come out to Service a pool for a property that I own, they couldn’t complete the job. The The technician stated that he does not have the proper tools on his truck to complete the opening and service of the pool . I spoke to Dave about the situation and he was the absolute most confrontational, argumentative, unprofessional. There’s a reason why this company has a three-point something star rating. On the reviews they have no idea what customer service or just being polite means if I were the owner of this company. I would severely rethinking keeping Dave in the front office. Staff operating the way they do horrible experience if I can give them -10 stars I would cannot believe how big of a jerk this guy gave is.
I sit on the board of 140 units in Watertown and Dave at Pure Aqua has been incredible to deal with. Weeks ago he promised me to be on site to personally spearhead some of the challenges we faced to get our pool open and with no reminder today he was onsite for the inspection as promised. This is the kind of attention we look for and we sincerely appreciate pure aqua's patience working with us through this process. Thank you and thanks for getting this done for us in time for the 4th of July.
Dave and the staff were great in getting the club's pools open, balanced and ready for inspection. The office staff is courteous and helpful. The staff that came out several times over a couple weeks worked hard and were knowledgeable. I couldn't be happier with Puraqua to this point.
Whatever you do, don’t call these guys. Their technician lost a bunch of parts and left my system disassembled. I called 9 times and they took my message each time but nobody ever called me back, to this day. Found someone else who finally managed to put it all back together but PurAqua cost me months and a lot of money.
I must say that this entire season it was a pleasure to work with PurAqua. It was my best season of pool service in 30 years of owning a pool. They showed up consistently and were highly attentive to the needs of the pool and spa. Occasionally, when things were not done quite right, they returned quickly and corrected things. Always with a customer first attitude. I have used PurAqua for decades. While their service has always been “good,” this year it was “excellent.” And consistently so. Even the water was happy. Crystal clear all season long. 😀
