A homeowner writing in April 2026 counted ten years of hiring Quality Preferred — it started with a second quote on some new ceilings — and noted that many of Steve Austin's crew have been with him for years. A 2018 reviewer was on their fourth job with the company; another that year had used them on and off for 15 years.
Quality Preferred Painting is a family-based Braintree company doing residential and commercial painting, carpentry and plastering across the South Shore and Boston; its site dates the business to 1987 and says Steven Austin took it over after a business degree. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #146137, is active, and its BBB profile is accredited with an A+.
Prep is what the older accounts keep describing. In a 2021 review, a customer had the entire interior of a condo painted that had not been touched in 20-plus years, wainscoting and crown molding included. Another 2021 homeowner had wallpaper stripped, the ceiling and walls repaired and everything painted, and said Steve explained each step first. In a 2018 review, a customer whose cathedral ceiling was repaired said the house stayed clean throughout — plastic and drop cloths over everything.
The work is not only paint. A 2023 reviewer had the whole interior painted plus carpentry on kitchen cabinets and a railing; in a 2020 review, a homeowner rebuilding a Cape Cod house after burst pipes cited custom carpentry alongside the painting. Over the years I have hired Steve and his crew for many indoor and outdoor projects at our home. The team is always reliable, respectful and extremely pleasant to work with. The quality of their work is excellent and I continue to recommend Quality Preferred to anyone I know who is looking to have work done.
I thankfully found Quality Preferred Painting 10 years ago. I contacted them looking for a second quote on new ceilings in a few rooms and painting too. That was just the start of it. Over the last 10 years, Steve Austin and his team (many who have been with him for years) have renovated two bathrooms, refreshed every room in the house and re-clapped the exterior of the house in 2023. Why do I keep hiring Quality Preferred? It is because I trust Steve and his team in my house and I feel he treats my home like it is his own. Also, Steve is responsive and is open to many, many questions before, during and after the process. 😊 And there has never been a project too small and Steve has run into a few interesting things in my 100+ year old home.
