Steve Richards runs a tree crew out of Hyannis known for taking on jobs other companies pass on — storm-split trunks, trees tangled in power lines, and large removals that need real equipment and a full crew. One reviewer describes a Nor'easter splitting a large tree that had to come down near live power lines in 2022, calling it "not an easy task," and says Steve returned calls almost immediately even while busy. That kind of responsiveness shows up again and again across five years of Google reviews. Customers writing between 2021 and 2023 repeatedly describe Steve or his crew showing up on time for both the estimate and the job itself, quoting a price on the spot without pushing an upsell, and bringing enough hands — one reviewer counted six — to finish precision work in a single visit. Pricing comes up as a specific plus: several reviewers, after shopping competitors, call it fair, and one who says they've used the company for a few years credits it for staying open about scope and cost. The record isn't spotless. A 2024 review describes a bucket truck spraying hydraulic fluid on a newly installed patio and breaking a fence post during a job, and says the owner refused to pay a roughly $1,200 estimate to fix it or return calls about the dispute. A separate, shorter 2024 review says follow-up requests after a completed job went unanswered despite repeated confirmations. Neither complaint describes the core tree work itself going wrong — both concern what happens when something outside the job goes sideways. Most recently, an April 2026 review describes a difficult limb removal handled by a "very professional crew," after the homeowner priced out several competitors first — recent praise that lines up with the company's older track record on tougher jobs. Google shows a 4.6-star average from 16 ratings. For emergency and large-scale tree work — full removals, pruning, stump grinding, storm cleanup — the pattern across years is a crew that answers the phone, shows up when it says it will, and prices fairly for demanding jobs. Given the 2024 damage dispute, it's worth asking upfront, in writing, how they'd handle accidental damage to a fence, patio, or landscaping near the work site before signing on.
I highly recommend Richards Tree Service in Hyannis! They showed up exactly on time with a very professional crew. They handled a difficult tree and limb removal with total expertise. After pricing out several other tree service companies, I’m so glad we chose Steven and his team. Their rates were very fair, the crew was top-notch, and they cleaned up everything even better than I expected. If you need reliable tree work, look no further. — Dave K.
Cannot recommend this business as they do not follow up their work after making many requests and getting confirmation from them.
I would have given zero stars if allowed to. Very unpleasant and unprofessional experience with Richard's Tree Service. They ruined my new patio I had professionally installed and refuse to pay the estimate I gave them to repair it. Removed my fence and rolled a bucket truck in my backyard, rather than using a boom truck like they should have. The trucks hydraulic fluid sprayed all over my new block. The owner has been giving me the run around and never came over to apologize or fix it. Don't use this company. He's a hack!
I had some tree and stump grinding work done. Excellent service and price . I would definitely recommend Richards Tree Service....
I would give Richard's Tree Service 6 Stars if possible. I needed trees trimmed badly around my sister's home and called Steven Richards to do the job. He was punctual, professional, and offered a very fair price. He and his team have excellent equipment. They showed up as planned and went to work. Steven has a great crew who really know what they are doing. The guys did exactly what was asked and even more. I feel very fortunate to have chosen this company to take care of my sister's home so professionally. Her roof is free of tree limbs, and her side, front, and back yard are in great shape for this coming winter. Richard's tree service left the home safe from potential broken tree limbs for this upcoming winter. I really can't Thank you enough Steven. 🙏👏😊 Sincerely, Daryl
