Richman Corp has a permit history most residential plumbers never approach: 143 permitted projects on BuildZoom, 13 of them in the last three years, and the descriptions are overwhelmingly commercial and institutional — roof drains on commercial roofs, a Boston Properties garage, schools and municipal buildings in Lowell, Boston, Brookline, Roxbury and North Attleboro, at valuations reaching $5.6 million. Only a handful are residential. The BBB lists Scott Richman as owner, two employees, and a business start date of January 1997, putting the company at 29 years. It is not BBB accredited, and the bureau marks it "Not Rated", saying it does not have enough information to rate it. No reviews are published there or on BuildZoom, and no complaints or government actions appear on the BBB file. Licensing is the thing to work through before you call. BuildZoom flags an alert on the profile — "No active license on file" — and scores it zero on that basis. Every licence number on the page is marked "License Not Verified": a Massachusetts plumber licence, #10551, shown active but with a last-verified expiration of May 2024; a journeyman plumber licence, #20084, shown active with a last-verified expiration back in May 2016; and that same number 10551 printed twice more as inactive City of Newton plumbing contractor and heater contractor registrations that BuildZoom says were at one point cancelled. None of it has been checked against the Massachusetts registry here, and directory licence blocks are often wrong — but a directory raising an alert on its own page is worth asking about directly. BuildZoom lists the work as plumbing, septic tanks and systems, gas and piping, boiler and water heater work, and sewer laterals; the BBB simply categorises the company as a plumber. For a homeowner, the plain read is that this is a commercial plumbing outfit that does residential work occasionally, with no customer account published anywhere to go on. If you call, ask whether they take jobs your size at all, ask for the current Massachusetts plumbing licence number, and verify it with the state yourself.
