Robert F McGee's BuildZoom page and his actual permit trail tell two different stories. The page carries a stock remodeling menu — kitchens, baths, basements, whole-home jobs, additions — but the 33 permits filed behind it are almost all plumbing and gas: boiler replacements, gas piping, brownstone renovations and multi-unit rehabs across Boston, South Boston, East Boston and Everett, one Marblehead job in 2022, and a sandwich-shop fit-out on Newbury Street. Read the permits, not the blurb. They describe a one-man operation — the profile is filed under his own name at a South Walpole address, with Robert F McGee listed as the sole employee and owner — doing city plumbing and heating work, much of it in older multi-family buildings where that is the hard part of the job. Nobody has reviewed him on BuildZoom. The 97 score sitting on the page is built from permit history, so it tells you how much work he has pulled and nothing at all about how those jobs went for the people who paid for them. The licensing is the part to sort out before hiring. BuildZoom lists Massachusetts construction supervisor licence CS-083591 twice over — once as verified active in June 2026, once as inactive and at one point cancelled — and shows a Newton residential builder licence, #232107, as active while noting that the last expiration date it verified was December 2022. Its FAQ line then calls both of them current. None of that is a verified credential. A reasonable call if you need someone comfortable with boilers and gas piping in a Boston triple-decker or brownstone, and no phone number is published, so expect to reach him through the listing. Ask which licence covers the gas and plumbing work he actually does, get the number, and check it against the state registry yourself.
