RSL Building Services is a Beverly, MA handyman and general-repair outfit run by 'Bob' (joined at times by an employee named Tony), specializing — per its own listing — in historic-home repair work: plaster repair on old horsehair plaster, weatherstripping and window/door work, general carpentry, painting and small remodeling, serving an area it describes broadly as 'North of Boston to southern NH.' The twelve reviews on file, from 2012 to 2024, split unevenly by era. Angi's earlier run, all from 2012-2014, is largely positive — small jobs at $50 to $1,142 for door repairs, weatherstripping and window-frame fixes, with reviewers calling Bob prompt, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. In a 2017 Houzz review, a customer of seven years described plastered ceilings, a renovated bathroom and re-caulked old windows, calling the prices reasonable and saying Bob had never let them down. But the record since then is far rockier: an August 2019 review accused Bob of misrepresenting costs, billing for unclear hardware purchases, and having a worker who arrived late, worked slowly on the clock, and — the reviewer said — stole from the house. A September 2024 review described a garage-door job left incomplete and billed $1,000 against a promised $200-300, while a separate February 2024 review, thanking 'Bob and Tony,' called a bathroom-closet-door fix quick and professional. No license number is listed on either platform profile — just the standard self-reported disclaimer — and the business claims '20 years of experience' without a way to verify it. Worth noting: Angi's own published star bar (63% five-star, 25% four-star) doesn't match the individual 3.5- and 4.5-star reviews actually shown on the same page. The two most recent, specific complaints — the alleged 2019 theft and the 2024 incomplete, overbilled garage door — are serious enough that anyone hiring Bob for a larger job should get a clear, written estimate and payment terms up front, even though the longer-standing customer relationships on file speak well of the smaller repair work.

Asked Bob to replace the door between garage and home. Worked slowly with a helper and charged by the hour for each. Job incomplete and charged $1k, not the $200-300 promised.
Thanks Bob and Tony for fixing my bathroom closet door that was scraping the floor. You were quick, efficient and professional.
Bob misled us on what our project would cost. He charged us for his trips to the hardware store and then handed us a bill for all the supplies he bought, most of which we weren't even sure was was ours. They guys he had working in our house were arrived late, left early and worked slowly- all the while we were being charged by the hour for. One of them even STOLE FROM US! Do NOT let these people in your house!
Bob has helped me many times over the past seven or so years. He is very good at old house issues. He has repaired and plastered old ceilings, renovated bathroom, re caulked old windows making them tight again. These are only a few things he has done. It he does not do it himself, he knows who does and will connect you to them. Bob has never let me down and his prices are reasonable.
Bob was a pleasure to work with. Very knowledgeable, prompt and courteous. Would hire him again for future work. (Handyman for Multiple Small Projects - For Business)
