S. Whitely Remodeling & Custom Carpentry says on its Houzz profile that it has been in business since 1976 and covers residential remodeling and construction. In a 2013 review, a customer said Steve demolished their old kitchen down to the studs, walled up two hall closets to enlarge the kitchen, laid travertine tile flooring on the diagonal in the hall and kitchen, built a pantry using the space above the basement stairs, installed new appliances and inlay cabinets, set a farmer's sink, installed honed marble tiles for the backsplash and new windows over the sink, and built and installed recessed shelves. That customer said Steve quoted the cost of the job up front and provided a new quote before starting any changes, and that he attended the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting to help answer questions about a proposed dining room addition. In a 2014 review, a customer said Steve finished their basement, using old barn wood to cover beams and surround a gas fireplace, and added a full bathroom. In a 2015 review, a person who had referred several clients to S. Whitely said he was then working on a full kitchen remodel of cabinets, walls and flooring for one of those referrals.
I have referred S. Whitely to several clients and he is a real professional. He is on site virtually every day, he cares about his name and reputation. He can do your whole project from start to finish. He is currently working on a referral of mine and it is going great. A full kitchen remodel ( cabinets, walls, flooring, etc. ) and will be completed within 3-4 weeks with 100% satisfaction. A great remodeler with great work ethic. I will be referring him again and again.
Steve just finished our basement for us. It exceeded our expectations. He is a very skilled carpenter. We have received numerous complements. We had many particular requirements and Steve was very flexible doing the work we wanted. We had him use a lot of old barn wood to cover beams and surround the added gas fireplace. He also did a great job adding a full bathroom. He was great to work with and we already have plans to use him again in the Spring. His goal was for us to be very pleased with the end result which we were. We will post pictures shortly.
Steve demolished my old kitchen down to the studs; walled up 2 closets in the hall, which has floor to ceiling tongue and groove pine paneling, to claim the space for enlarging the kitchen; laid down travertine tile flooring on the diagonal in the hall and kitchen; built a pantry in the kitchen by utilizing space above the basement stairs; installed all new appliances and inlay cabinets, including setting the architectural glass in the cabinet doors; cut out the cabinet for and set a farmer's sink; installed honed marble tiles for the back splash; installed new windows over the sink; cut down pine paneling at one end of kitchen to create wainscoting and built a chair rail; built and installed recessed shelves in one wall; and currently is building a door for the pantry using a reclaimed cabinet door with 5 panes of glass as an inset. Next he will build a new dining room, for which we needed approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals. Steve attended the ZBA meeting to help answer any questions pertaining to the proposed addition. He has been wonderful to work with: he communicates well, is honest, responds promptly, ensures the customer is happy with the work and is very caring. As an example, during the demolition phase, my two rescue dogs became frightened and ran out in the fenced backyard in the pouring rain. I was at work and Steve went out to get the dogs and in the process, one escaped out the front door. Steve went out and got the 40-lb dog, carried her back, and put them both in my bedroom, where they feel safe. He quotes you the cost of the job up front; it is not an estimate it is the cost, unless you make changes, in which case he will provide a new quote before starting the changes. I made several changes in the course of the project and he was always accommodating.
