Two names show up in nearly every review of this Harwich company, and they're always the same two: Kevin and Lorrie. Schoolhouse Construction is a husband-and-wife design-build shop — the company says Kevin M. Blute is CEO and president and Lorraine Blute is project manager and interior designer — and homeowners keep describing the pairing itself as the point: he builds and does the cabinetry, she designs and runs the job. The company says it was established in 1993 and has worked out of Harwich for more than 30 years. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, with Schoolhouse Construction Inc as the registry's holder of record. The jobs people describe are whole-room, not handyman. A 2025 client wrote about a kitchen taken down to the studs — a large window moved, a wall extended, a bar area added. A 2024 reviewer described a kitchen rebuilt from demo to finish, then a living room. A 2023 client wrote about a bathroom renovation where Lorrie helped set a realistic budget and then went shopping with them at Cape suppliers to hold it. Decks, windows and interior painting come up too: a 2023 review detailed a TimberTech PVC deck rebuild with lighting run into the rails. On Google, 69 ratings average 4.9; Porch shows the same 4.9 across 51 aggregated online ratings. Twenty-three written accounts run from 2020 to 2026 across six sources — a long, steady history rather than a recent burst. Two things repeat: work that starts and ends when promised (a 2024 client wrote of an "on time" and "on budget" Cape remodel, finished a couple of days early in a 2021 account), and crews that clean up — a 2024 reviewer said the team arrived at 7:30, worked until 6, and tidied the site every evening. Several people hired them more than once; a 2022 reviewer listed two bathrooms, a kitchen refresh, a new deck and painting the whole interior. Two things worth raising before you call. A 2024 reviewer mentioned waiting until it was "our turn" before their project began, so ask where you'd land in the schedule — a two-principal shop that runs every job personally has a finite queue. And Porch's profile lists trades no client describes, among them accessibility construction, audio and visual installation and basement waterproofing; confirm directly that the work you want is work they actually take on. This is the call for a planned, designed remodel — a kitchen, a bathroom, an addition, custom cabinetry — where you want the same two people on it from the first drawing to the punch list, not a same-day repair outfit. Pin down the schedule window and get the scope in writing; on everything else, twenty-three homeowners over six years have told a remarkably similar story.
Kevin and Laurie are a perfect pair to get the job done right and look fabulous, we wanted to update our old fireplace from wood burning to gas but not an ugly insert, Kevin draw up the plans and assembled the crews to make it happen from manufacturer, plumber, electrician, builders, etc. and was there throughout, Laurie stepped in with good advice on what looked right and would not, we were beyond pleased with the results and the price was not outrageous, highly recommend
Schoolhouse Construction did the remodel of our kitchen, dining room, and living room. Working with Kevin & Lorrie was a great experience from start to finish. They were responsive, professional, and helped us turn our outdated space into a modern, functional area. Highly recommend for anyone looking to remodel.
We had a great experience working with Schoolhouse Construction. Kevin and Lorrie worked with us as we redesigned and updated a primary bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet as well a beverage center/bar area for our family room. They are extremely effective in their roles. They are honest, reliable, responsive and pragmatic. Their team is comprised of extremely talented tradespeople who worked seamlessly to complete the project to our satisfaction. We were extremely impressed with their professionalism and the outcome!
Kevin and Lorrie Blute, owners of Schoolhouse Construction Inc., go above and beyond to make their clients dreams come true. They take care of all the details and keep you informed every step of the way. Their subcontractors are professional, efficient, respectful and tidy. I am so pleased with my new kitchen! It is beautiful! Thank you to all involved in the complete makeover.
We hired Schoolhouse Construction to do a complete renovation of our kitchen. The project involved removing everything right down to the studs, moving a large window, extending a wall and adding a bar area. When we initially spoke with them, they gave us confidence that they would help us create the kitchen we really wanted. Lorrie and Kevin work very well together as a team. Lorrie envisions the possibilities and offers suggestions from her experience on many previous jobs. She set up appointments and accompanied us to the various suppliers as we chose cabinets, counter tops, tile and plumbing fixtures. She worked with the vendors to get us the best price. Lorrie brought us several home-cooked meals during the process and her culinary skills are outstanding! Kevin handled the construction and scheduled the various subcontractors. Kevin is very affable and easy to work with. He was always present to meet the subcontractors and introduce them to us. The subcontractors came when expected, did high quality work and cleaned up when finished. They were very personable and willing to answer questions while on the job, They gave us the impression that they enjoyed working with Schoolhouse and wanted us to be happy with the results. We are extremely pleased with our new kitchen created by Schoolhouse. We very much enjoyed working with them and seeing the project come together. They stayed on time and on budget. We highly recommend Schoolhouse Construction and would certainly hire them again. Lorrie and Kevin are the people you really want to have by your side when doing your renovation.
