Shaffer Beacon Mechanical calls itself a family-owned mechanical services and heating oil delivery company serving Central Connecticut since 1890. A hartfordbusiness.com article reported that the Shaffer Co. of Bristol acquired Beacon Mechanical Service LLC of Granby and renamed it Shaffer Beacon Mechanical LLC. A recent customer had a new Roth fuel oil tank installed and praised how good the installation looked. When a broken well pump left one household without water, the company got the water back up and running. A customer with no hot water said Alex came on a Saturday afternoon and solved the problem before ending his work day. A customer who replaced two gas furnaces and a central air unit said Rich led the job, which was completed within three days. One customer's running account describes a 40-year-old oil tank swapped for a Roth tank, a well pump pulled from 185 feet down and replaced, and a new boiler installed. That customer's one gripe was a policy requiring a service contract on the A/C to get one on the boiler, which more than doubled the cost before it was reduced. A recent customer said a mini-split cleaning bill came to almost double what the quoted hourly rate led them to expect. An automatic oil delivery customer said technicians came out twice and the same issue continued after hundreds of dollars spent, and cancelled both delivery and the service contract. A 2026 customer said a service manager was rude on the phone and hung up. A 2024 customer said two visits on a five-year-old boiler left it still not working, and another company diagnosed and fixed it the same day. A 2020 customer said a plumber installed a gas valve tagged “not for potable water” on the main water shutoff, then replaced it with a lead-free water valve after a call back. Google shows 4.2 stars from 159 ratings, and HomeAdvisor shows 4.7 stars from 64.

They certainly earned this one star review over the years. I had mini splits installed through this company a good 5 years ago. I was told they wouldn't need maintance. I've paid almost 5k in maintenance and cleaning fees since. Well, for maintance this time I looked around at other options and found plenty for a more affordable price. BUT Beacon decided to offer me $200 an hour. Since it only took a few hours the last time I had them cleaned. Well, I have them arriving at 1:30ish and leaving a little after 5. Like, on camera and all. So roughly 3 and a half hours. I would have settled with $800. They did a good job so I would have been happy to round the hour. Even though a lot of it was setting up equipment quite slowly too. When I received my bill, attached here, it was ALMOST DOUBLE that. That just seems like false advertising. So yeah, I'm over trying to get this company to be good to me. Or to just not lie to me. So instead of trying to fight this bill, I will post it here for you all to see. I hope it was worth the extra money!

I had an emergency when our well pump broke, leaving our house without water. Shaffer Beacon responded promptly and was able to get our water back up and running. Replacing a well pump is a significant job, and I’m extremely grateful to Paul, Carlos, Alerek, and Mario for staying at our home and working through the process to get everything completed. They went above and beyond to make sure my family had water again as quickly as possible. Thank you to the entire Shaffer Beacon team for the excellent service, professionalism, and dedication. I highly recommend them!
