Small Haul is a South Boston moving company built around a specific niche: the small move — a studio apartment, a couple of rooms, a handful of large pieces — rather than a full household relocation. In a 2019 write-up, Boston Magazine called out its "top-rated crew" for exactly that kind of job, and a follow-up piece the next year noted the crew's extensive experience with apartment-sized moves. What shows up again and again in its Google reviews is care with awkward, heavy items on tight Boston stairwells. One homeowner described movers threading an oddly shaped, heavy couch through a narrow staircase with twists and turns without incident, and a crew delivering five pieces of large furniture from Boston to Newton tightened the dining table's loose legs without being asked. A different reviewer said a two-person team finished a job in five minutes that another moving company had given up on after two hours of trying. The company has built real repeat business — several reviewers mention using Small Haul two or three times, including one customer who came back three times for a heavy, delicate item. In a December 2025 review, another customer needed a full office move handled with less than 24 hours' notice and said the crew got it done without missing a beat. Its Google page carries 4.9 stars across 477 ratings, and the written record behind it runs deep: 329 reviews since 2021 across five sources, with the last six months (25 reviews) turning up no negative write-ups. Two billing complaints are worth knowing about before booking. In a 2025 review, a customer said Small Haul charges per item moved rather than by the hour, and was billed over $2,500 for a job that took about an hour to load and unload at each end — though the company also stored the belongings for 12 days during a busy stretch. In a 2024 review, another customer said a receipt couldn't be viewed by email until they'd submitted a star rating, calling the practice unethical. Small Haul is a reasonable call for an apartment move, a studio clear-out, or shifting a few bulky, delicate pieces where careful handling on stairs matters more than long-haul logistics — its reviewers keep coming back for exactly that kind of job. Before booking, it's worth asking how the quote is structured, per item or by the hour, so the final bill doesn't come as a surprise.

Liam and Abe did an amazing job moving our desk and oddly shaped/heavy couch. We have a very narrow staircase with twists and turns and they had no issues getting everything where it needed to be safely. They were super friendly got the job done quickly. Highly recommend!
