"Not the cheapest, but." That phrase, or one close to it, shows up in Worcester Reddit threads and Google reviews alike, and it is the fairest three-word summary of Solid State Construction: a Shirley, MA exterior remodeler whose customers pay a premium for James Hardie siding done by a crew that shows up daily and keeps the site clean. The company describes itself as family-owned, serving Central Massachusetts and MetroWest with Hardie and vinyl siding, asphalt, metal and rubber roofing, windows, doors and decks; it says it made the James Hardie President's Club from 2017 to 2019 and is a GAF Master Elite roofer. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active on the state registry, and the Better Business Bureau grades it A+.
Siding is what people write about. A May 2026 homeowner called the company the state's top Hardie contractor after taking multiple Hardie bids; a July customer said the price was the best they found for the siding product they chose and the sales visit was not pushy. Crews worked through what several reviewers called a brutal 2026 winter on full re-sides, and a June 2026 customer had siding, a new roof and a structural repair over the garage handled in one project. A Roslindale owner in March 2026 said the house looked completely transformed; a January 2025 customer said they felt included in the process with frequent status updates. On Reddit, a Worcester commenter in August 2026 and a Somerville neighbor in July both praised the result and the tidy site.
The sales consultant, JC, gets his own reviews: a widowed homeowner in August 2026 said he walked her through the whole process, and another learned more from him than from three meetings elsewhere. Adam, also on sales, is praised in a June 2026 deck review for standing behind the work, but he is the name in the October 2025 one-star review, where a customer said promises about the schedule were not kept and the siding job was frustrating from start to finish.
The complaints are fewer but specific, and several are about what happens after the check clears. For a full Hardie re-side, a roof or a window package where you want daily communication and a name to call, Solid State is a strong candidate in MetroWest and Central Mass. Get competing bids so you know the premium, put the schedule and warranty paperwork in the contract, and ask how post-completion issues like a leaking soffit get handled, since that is where the unhappy customers were left waiting.
