Steadfast Builders is a Pembroke general contractor whose reviewers keep coming back to the same thing: fast turnarounds and finished projects that match the quote. One customer got a site visit, measurements and a finished basement plan back the very next day; another says a patio flooring and slider-door job was priced fairly and wrapped up on schedule. BBB lists the company as a sole proprietorship run by Stephen Straz, rated A. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. Across Angi, HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack, ten reviews from 2024 run nine positive to one detailed complaint. The praise clusters around basement renovations and design work, a referred deck build finished on time with a clean site, and a combined kitchen, bathroom, laundry and pantry renovation where the crew stayed available through the whole process. Two things are worth checking before booking. In an October 2024 review, a customer said Steadfast didn't bring a licensed plumber for the plumbing portion of a bathroom flooring job, and that work had to be redone; the same review describes a pushy installer over a disputed vent. And its Thumbtack profile states 26 years in business, while BBB records show the company was started on March 11, 2024 — worth asking directly how long the business has actually operated under this name. For basement finishing, decks, flooring and multi-room renovation work, the reviews back Steadfast up; for anything touching plumbing, or before relying on their stated years of experience, get specifics in writing.
Experience: Sent to Steadfast Builders on October 4, "I have an area of 40 square feet in a bathroom that needs flooring installed. The toilet and vanity have been removed and a plywood subflooring is added. I have white oak unfinished wood to be installed and the paper to be put down on top of the subflooring. I am ready for the install and can be flexible on the schedule. My preference is to do the job ASAP." Te installer continually changed his bid claiming our verbal conversations were very different from the actual discussions. He later claimed that all materials were to be purchased by the customer without any estimate provided and claimed this was always the way their projects were run. Stephen was very pushy and even became verbally aggressive after covering a vent with building materials claiming he did not believe the duct outlet to be necessary, Plumbing was a major issue. Steadfast Builders did not provide a licensed plumber claiming their plumber was on a different project. There was a faucet removed that Stephan and the other installers pretended to be very difficult and time consuming. I suspect this was just an act. Even though the install included plumbing to be done, a licensed plumber was not involved at any part of their install. The plumbing work had to be completely redone. In the end I said, "I don't like it." Stephen made no response to this statement and did not suggest a solution.
I had flooring and new slider doors put in for the patio. Steve and his team were excellent . They were professional, showed up when they said they would and did a wonderful job! The price was very fair and the level of work was exceptional. I would highly recommend Steadfast Builders !
Was very happy with my Basement Renovation and Design from start to finish. They were extremely prompt and professional show up the same day took measurements and got back to use the next day with a finished basement plan and quote which was completely unexspected. They had so many great ideas and extensive knowledge in the buisness that made all my decision making that much easier. The quality of work was second to none. I will be highly recommending these guys to anyone I know in need.
