Steven R Toomey is a builder and remodeler based in Center Sandwich, NH. His Massachusetts home improvement contractor licence 182067 is expired on the state registry. BuildZoom lists licence number CS-044678 for him. In 2020, Steve renovated a bathroom; that review says he was timely and dependable, communicated well, and followed up to make sure they were happy with the result. A separate 2020 review says Steve completed a family lake home in NH and kept them updated on a regular basis. A 2017 one-star review said his on-site supervision was spotty, that he cut corners with problems coming up after move-in, and that subcontractors were not paid. Another 2017 review said he made grave (costly) mistakes on a home on Martha's Vineyard, with limited supervision, and did not pay subcontractors. In a 2026 BuildZoom post signed Steve Toomey, he says he built a house in Vineyard Haven, MA, and that the only subs not paid on that job were people Hans hired himself and then refused to pay.

Hans is not telling the whole story. We built Hans a beautiful house in Vineyard Haven MA. He was extremely happy right up until they were moving in. He had asked us to finish the basement and install a mini split in a basement level family room, which we did. Ryan Kurth was my island HVAC man and did a superb job. Hans asked if this unit supplied fresh air after the house was completed? We said no, you would need an ERV that moves air in and out of the home. He was upset that this would be an up charge and said we should have incorporated this unit from the beginning. We reminded him that he requested the systems we installed and if he had asked we would gladly make the retrofit, and that it could easily be done now! He was upset and refused to have Ryan do this. The only subs that were not paid, was my lead man, Anderson Perini and his girlfriend, that Hans hired himself to move furniture in and put beds together and clean. I was building his custom garden trellis bench as they were moving in. And he told me I was not to enter the house unless they were there. The house was finished at that point and they were moved in. There was no reason to go back in anyway, but, he would not allow us to install the ERV and he refused to pay Anderson and company….. and that, is the rest of the story. Anderson, Ryan, John Keene and more will attest to my character, quality and integrity. Steve Toomey
Steve did an excellent job renovating our bathroom. He was timely, dependable, and communicated well. Steve was conscientious and followed up with us to make sure we were happy with the final the result.
Steve recently completed our family lake home in NH and we are very pleased with the finished project. Steve and his fabulous team worked very hard to meet our every need. He is very conscientious and communicative and he kept us updated on a regular basis. He was very patient with all our questions and concerns and made an effort to address any issues we had in a timely fashion. He is a true professional in every sense and we can recommend Steve R Toomey Construction with confidence.
Steve comes across as a nice guy who will do a good job with your house - careful, his on site supervision is spotty at best (he may fly in occasionally), he cuts corners with problems coming up when you have moved in but Steve is long gone - subcontractors are not paid ... the list goes on....
Please be careful - Steve comes across as your "buddy" and "will do everything you want". The fact is that he made grave (costly) mistakes on our Million $ home on Martha's Vineyard, just flies in occasionally on his private plane- sweet talk - limited supervision - and in the end does not pay subcontractors.
