Two names come up again and again in Stocker Oil's reviews: Tom, who runs the installations, and Johnny — also written Johnny M. and Mac — who turns up for the service calls. Stocker Oil is a Topsfield heating-oil dealer that also does the mechanical work, and the installs are where the detail lives. A customer writing in May 2022 described a full oil boiler replacement: two water heaters pulled out, a new boiler and water heater in, and the system replumbed to nine zones — a day and a half on site, hot water back the first afternoon, heat by noon the next day, in a 300-year-old house. Another, in October 2021, had an Energy Kinetics System 2000 fitted and said it was finished on the day promised and cleaned up spotlessly. A July 2022 customer who had quoted five companies for a furnace, boiler and mini-splits chose Stocker and had the whole job done in three days. The service side reads the same way: furnace cleanings, a thermostat swap, and a hot water heater that failed on a Sunday night in January 2022, where the technician made an emergency call so the house had heat overnight and the new tank went in on the Monday. A reviewer in November 2021 said someone rang back within five minutes with an ETA. Two complaints sit against that. In January 2022 a customer wrote that a technician drained 40 gallons of water into their basement, that the company neither held itself accountable nor communicated afterwards, and that the owner's response on inspecting the damage was to try to sell them a boiler — they had moved in two weeks earlier and the room was their children's playroom. Then the most recent thing anyone wrote, a three-star review in March 2025, was a customer leaving over deliveries: the "automatic" ones had to be triggered by phone that winter, the tank was nearly empty when oil finally came so the bill was steep, and an email went unanswered. That March 2025 review matters twice over, because it is also where the written history stops. Almost all the praise here dates from 2021 and 2022, so it describes a crew and a standard from four and five years ago rather than last season. Its BBB page carries an A+ while stating the business is not BBB Accredited; the same page dates the company to 1975, gives Stocker Home Energy Services as an alternate name, and names Cubby Oil & Energy as a related business. For an oil boiler or furnace replacement the installation history is genuinely strong and specific. Before signing, ask who now holds the service contract and answers the emergency line, and get the automatic-delivery terms — what triggers a drop, the minimum tank level, and what happens on a cold weekend — in writing.
