Read enough of Surner Heating's reviews and you start to notice the names. Kareem, Ron, Leigh, Levi, Andy — customers write about the technician who showed up rather than the company that sent him, and several say they now ask for a particular one by name. The work they describe is the unglamorous backbone of a New England winter: annual furnace and mini-split cleanings, oil and propane tank swaps, a boiler that quit, an AC zone that stopped cooling. Speed comes up constantly. One homeowner called at 8am for AC service and had a bad coil replaced by 9. Another lost hot water on a Sunday evening, called at 9 Monday morning, and had it repaired a few hours later. In February 2026, a customer who had run out of propane twice in two winters with a previous supplier described getting a new 1,000-gallon tank installed and filled the same day. Tank and equipment jobs draw the most detailed write-ups — old oil tanks pulled and replaced with new filler pipes and boiler connections, a Roth tank install one customer called neat and considerate of the property, a furnace and water tank swapped out in a day. Google puts the company at 4.4 stars across 149 ratings, and its Better Business Bureau page is an A+. The complaints land somewhere else entirely, and they are worth reading before you hand over a card. Two separate one-star reviews in April 2026 say oil was delivered after the account had been cancelled and the card on file was charged, with no refund offered — one of those reviewers used the word fraud. It is not a new theme: a 2023 review from a six-student household in Amherst described propane delivery fees, credit-card charges they could not account for, and invoices that never arrived, and a 2022 review recounted a billing fight over a tank filled past what the customer had asked for. Almost none of the anger is about the wrench work; nearly all of it is about the fuel account. Two smaller things to raise. A 2023 reviewer paid $159 for a mini-split call, says the problem was misdiagnosed, and never got the promised estimate back. A customer of more than 50 years wrote in 2024 about calls that went unreturned and loose fittings found on a newly replaced oil burner. The BBB page also lists two Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and Inspections licence numbers for the business, BU-022101 and PM-000715 — that is the directory's own record, not a confirmation from the state registry. For service work out of Amherst — cleanings, repairs, and tank or system replacements — the current run of reviews is consistent and recent.
