A longtime customer's December 2020 review described Alan calling ahead, arriving on time and offering advice about home repairs and options. W.S. Pickering & Son is based in Amherst, and its Massachusetts HVAC licence is active. Google shows a 4.6-star average from nine ratings. The written Google reviews date from 2019–2022. In June 2020, a customer praised quick service and said Pickering chose a less expensive route when one was available. A November 2019 reviewer described work involving new appliances and praised the team from scheduling through completion. Another customer had a different experience: in May 2019, a reviewer whose family had used the company for 40 years complained about Mrs. Pickering's manner and problems hooking up a washer and dryer. In a January 2026 Amherst Nextdoor discussion, one commenter said Pickering had done the job and been pleasant, although they had not needed the company in a while. Another commenter tentatively said that “J. Pickering” only did commercial work; that comment names J. Pickering rather than W.S. Pickering & Son.
“J. Pickering only does commercial now, I believe.”
“Pickering- haven’t needed them in a while but they did the job and were very nice.”
“Chris was a Master Plumber, and President of W. S. Pickering & Son, Inc., on Main Street in Amherst.”

Awesome company!!!
Alan is a fantastic plumber. He is kind and courteous, offering advice about home repair and options. He calls ahead and arrives on time. The office staff is super knowledgeable also. We have relied upon their expert service for years.
They have always provided quick top quality service! Pickering has never tried to gouge me as some other professionals have. If there is a less expensive route they will do it.
Needed work done with new appliances. From scheduling the appointment to the finish the whole team was great to work with. I/we would highly recommend W S Pickering. Thank you for the great work!!
Mrs. Pickering is rude! My family has used them for 40 years. I moved and now, she's showing her true colors. They can't even hookup a washer and dryer without issues. Extremely disappointed.
