Fifty-one years in, T.K. Lyden Electric & Generator still gets called for the same two things: the wiring behind the walls, and the standby generator that keeps the house running when the grid quits. The Shrewsbury company says it was started in 1975 by Timothy K. Lyden, who apprenticed in the trade and earned his Massachusetts licence after serving as a ship electrician in the Vietnam Conflict. It describes itself as independently and locally owned, family operated, and veteran-owned; its BBB and Procore listings likewise call it family-owned. The day-to-day work it advertises is residential and light-commercial electrical — installations, service upgrades, repairs, transfer switches, lighting — plus Generac and Kohler standby power, for which both its own site and its Procore entry say it is a factory-trained dealer. Its stated service area runs from Shrewsbury and Worcester out through Fitchburg, Leominster, Marlborough and Sturbridge. The written record is short, and it splits. On Google, a customer who books the company every year for generator service said in February 2026 that it handles the job well. In an August 2025 review, another homeowner described T.K. Lyden redoing the electrical system in their entire house, and credited the crews with working in extreme conditions while staying on task and in contact throughout. Its BBB page, where it has held an A+ grade and been accredited since March 2021, also carries a review from a customer who would not recommend the company to anyone. The thing worth pinning down before you book is licensing. The company lists Massachusetts electrical licences 21802 and 22527 and construction supervisor CS-073192 on its own site and its BBB profile, along with two New Hampshire numbers. Massachusetts records for licence 21802 are active — but the registry names Nicola N Galante as the holder of record, not Lyden, so ask who the licensed electrician of record is on your job. This reads as a call for standby generator work and larger electrical projects in Central Massachusetts, with the repeat-customer pattern and the whole-house rewire as the strongest accounts on file. With only three reviews written about it, treat those accounts as a starting point rather than a settled verdict: confirm the licence covering your specific work, and get the scope and price in writing before the crew arrives.
Use TK Lyden every year for my generator annual service, they do a great job!
I've just had T.K. Lyden in my home redoing the whole electrical system in the house. The crews were awesome, they worked in extreme conditions, also remaining on task and in contact consistently. Highly recommended in my book. This company is completely fantastic!
I wish there were an option for negative stars. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
