Ninety-seven reviews stretching back to 2012, and the same name comes up in nearly every one: Tao. Taozen Flooring runs out of 303 Wyman Street in Waltham, and the man who answers the phone is the one who shows up to quote the job — BBB lists Tao Hoang as president of a four-person shop that has been accredited there since 2008. The work is hardwood, top to bottom: installation, sanding, refinishing, staining, stair treads and tile, plus engineered, laminate, luxury vinyl and epoxy on the company's own list. Boston Magazine's Best of Boston Home 2022 and a decade of Angie's List service awards are both the company's own claims, though the BBB page backs the A+ grade and the 2008 accreditation date independently. What homeowners describe in the last few months is a crew that solves the awkward job rather than upselling past it. One April customer with a 1905 house and non-standard subfloors under a rotten bathroom floor said Taozen was among the only contractors willing to take on the small, odd space. Another had Brazilian cherry refinished around water damage and singled out how little dust the sanding left. A 3,000-square-foot refinish-and-stain in April also picked up a kitchen backsplash swap, finished inside the quote. In March, someone with two floors done in Wellesley wrote that the price was reasonable and there was no dust anywhere afterward. Speed and scheduling recur as much as craftsmanship. Reviewers from February through July describe jobs starting quickly, finishing on the promised date, and Tao walking them through material choices with samples in hand before any money changed hands. The thing worth raising: Angi's profile, alongside a 4.9 average over 287 reviews, carries one detailed two-star account of a laminate installation where promised callback repairs went undone and the customer said they were pressed to take the review down. It is a single complaint against a long record, and it is about laminate rather than the hardwood work that fills the rest of the reviews — but it is specific, and it concerns follow-through after the crew leaves. Ask what the warranty covers and get the callback terms in writing. The ratings themselves don't line up perfectly. Google shows a flat 5.0 across 88 ratings; Angi shows 4.9 across 287; Houzz shows 5.0 from a single review left in 2012. The Angi number, resting on the deepest history, is the one to trust. If you have old hardwood that needs sanding and refinishing — especially in an older house with patches, water damage or mismatched species to blend — this is a shop with a long, corroborated history of exactly that work. Confirm the finish type and the callback policy before booking.

Taozen Flooring was fantastic! Tao was friendly, professional and provided me with ample information to make the best choice for my floor. He provided samples of options and always informed me of the costs. The work was done on schedule and on budget with no additional charges or delays. His team worked as professionals and kept the worksite immaculate. The finished project is exactly what I was hoping for. I highly recommend them.

Tao and his crew did an amazing job installing our new engineered hardwood floors. We needed to get rid of our carpet and replace it with new hardwood floors. When Tao first came by for a free estimate, he had great suggestions to make the space look larger and more open. We wanted to try to match the existing hardwood floors we already had as much as possible. Tao immediately knew what kind of floors to use and he even had samples on hand so that I could compare them with our current floors. Tao's estimate was very reasonable and comparable to other companies I reached out to. I went with Tao because of his background as a designer and I trusted he would make sure the floors look great! It ended up being a great decision because we are very happy with our new floors! The installation process was very smooth and even finished earlier than expected. The crew was very respectful of our home and did a great job keeping the house clean after their work was done. Any minor issues I found during installation were immediately remedied by the team without any issue. Overall, I would highly recommend reaching out to Tao for your next flooring project!

Taozen flooring refinished our Brazilian cherry hardwood floor and repaired in areas of water damage. Working with Tao was a great experience - he replied quickly, gave honest opinions about what to do and what to expect, and provided a very fast time to start the service. His team did a phenomenal job - punctual, communicative, respectful, very thorough and clean - remarkably little dust given the scale of the work. And the result is beautiful - beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Taozen flooring, and look forward to working with Tao and his team again soon.

Tao and team did an amazing job on both flooring and tiles in our new home. They refinished and stained about 3,000 sq foot of hardwood in our home and removed and replaced our kitchen backsplash ahead of repainting our cabinets. Tao is so knowledgeable - giving us great advice on stains and finishes - and was extremely easy to communicate with. He kept us updated on progress, had the team working 6 days a week, and finished both faster than expected and within the quote. They really can do it all, and we will be coming back to the team for future floor, tile or paint needs!

We had a bathroom with rotten subfloors that needed replaced. This was an older home-1905- that had slightly non standard subfloors. Taozen was one of the only contractors that bothered to work with us because it was a smaller space with non standard flooring. They did an amazing job. We’re super happy with the work they had done and plan to bring them back for our other bathroom as well as kitchen when we’re on those projects. Highly recommend them.
