The Curtice Group Inc

The Curtice Group is a North Reading design-build firm for additions and large home renovations. Its website says founder and CEO Scott Curtice has worked in construction since 1989; that is his career history, not a founding date for the company. The company describes handling design, engineering, permitting and construction in-house. The Massachusetts registry lists active HIC registration 164029 to The Curtice Group Inc. The review history is broadly strong: Google shows 4.7 from 15 ratings and Houzz 4.9 from 27. In an April 2026 Houzz review, a customer described an addition that included design, contract management and construction, along with a kitchen remodel, roof replacement and interior and exterior painting. In January 2026, another customer praised communication and transparency during bathroom and kitchen work, slider installation and a deck. Earlier reviews describe repeat renovations, on-time or under-budget work and a finished basement that was still performing well years later; those accounts date from 2023 and 2022. There is also a serious consultation complaint. In an October 2022 Google review, a customer who had been matched through Angi alleged that a $250 consultation price and written estimate were doubled when Scott arrived, citing add-ons; the reviewer called it a bait-and-switch. Houzz displays a matching one-star warning without a visible date, and its review text is truncated. This is an allegation, not an independently established finding, but the amount and estimate change are specific enough to discuss before agreeing to a paid consultation. Credential listings need to be read by type. The state registry and BuildZoom both show HIC 164029 active; BuildZoom separately lists HIC 123486 as inactive. Houzz prints 068409, which BuildZoom identifies as the stem of active construction supervisor credential CSFA-068409; the similarly numbered Newton entry is a municipal registration, not that state credential. Before signing, confirm the project scope, consultation fee and who handles permits, then verify the current HIC and supervisor credentials for the work being contracted.
