Mark Brunke Design is a Massachusetts carpentry and design/build practice centered on custom cabinetry, furniture, and careful restoration. The company's website says Mark Brunke learned woodworking from his father, apprenticed in his shop, and has spent over two decades working with homeowners in Massachusetts historic neighborhoods. BBB lists the business in Mattapan with an A+ grade and 29 years in business. The recent customer history is unusually consistent: eight reviews since March 2026 are five-star accounts of cabinetry, built-ins, bathroom work, furniture, and restoration. Homeowners describe properly selected and stained wood, smoothly operating drawers, aligned doors, thoughtful design, and close coordination during installation. One reviewer says Brunke returned within the same week to fix a kitchen-island pull years after the original job; another interior designer says she has relied on his cabinet- and furniture-making expertise since 1996. The fit is clearest for custom woodwork and historically informed renovation details rather than a standardized, high-volume remodel. Before booking, confirm the exact scope and which parts of a larger room renovation Brunke will perform or coordinate; customer projects range from cabinetry and furniture to complete bathroom remodels, floor refinishing, and restoration. He is a sensible call for homeowners who care about design decisions, material selection, and finished details. Ask for a scope, schedule, and installation responsibilities in writing, then review comparable examples for the work you need.
I recently had an opportunity to work with Mark Brunke on cabinets for our new bathroom. Mark’s cabinets are extremely attractive and reflect high quality, including beautiful design and an attention to detail. It shows up in wood that is properly selected and stained, draws that pull out smoothly, doors which align perfectly and wood grain that runs in the proper direction. His lovely cabinets nicely completed our new bathroom and set the tone. It should be noted that Mark also made cabinets for us about 4 years ago when we renovated a bathroom. The outcome was similar; lovely cabinets with small details and an excellent finish that made them nice to look at. Visitors would often note how lovely they were. Mark Brunke is the go-to guy for designers and architects in the Newton area. I was originally introduced to him by Jon Anderson, a local interior designer we were working with at that time. Mark has a well earned reputation for lovely, quality cabinets, that are perfectly measured for your space and delivered an attractive price point. Bruce Rubinger Newton, MA
Beautiful work and diligent craftsmanship. Highly Recommend this woodwork.
We have worked with Mark many times over the past 6 years. He helped us with our kitchen, bathrooms as well as a gorgeous built in oak bookshelf. Highly recommend his services. He is a beautiful craftsman.
I couldn't be happier with the custom work completed for our home. Mark built our pantry unit, laundry room unit, and vanity. The level of detail is truly amazing—every element is meticulously crafted with both functionality and the user in mind. The results are stunning and work beautifully for our daily needs. What sets Mark apart is his thoughtful design approach and exceptional attention to detail. He didn't just deliver outstanding cabinetry; he also worked closely with our contractor during installation to ensure everything was done correctly. He even took care of additional work that our contractors hadn't realized needed to be done, demonstrating both expertise and dedication that went well beyond our expectations. His personal, hands-on approach to every aspect of the project is custom work at its best. If you're looking for a cabinet maker who truly cares about the outcome and understands how people will actually use their space, I highly recommend Mark.
Mark is the consummate artist and craftsman. He’s a superb project manager and sensitive collaborator. Over several years, his work for us ranged from complete bathroom remodels and floor refinishing to ceiling and medallion restoration, as well as exquisitely finished woodwork and painting detail throughout. He brought back beauty and grace to our 1864 Boston row house - qualities our home had long been missing. Look no further; Mark is simply terrific.
