Typical bathroom remodel around $36,300
In March 2026 a homeowner put a bathroom renovation out to four contractors and chose this one on the strength of the estimate: Gary Moffie's proposal broke out labor hours, labor cost, subcontractor cost and materials, and still came in competitive on the total. That kind of line-item bid is rare enough in remodeling to be the reason to call. The Remodeling Company works out of the Cummings Center in Beverly. The company says Moffie founded it in 1998 and still runs it as president, and the Better Business Bureau's listing puts it at 27 years in business. Its own site describes full-service home remodeling plus handyman and aging-in-place work for Greater Boston towns — Newton, Wellesley, Weston, Brookline, Cambridge, Needham, Sudbury and Manchester-by-the-Sea. The written accounts are few but consistent. An interior designer who works on luxury residential renovation wrote in May 2026 about a primary suite job and described it as a strong collaboration with the builder. A homeowner writing in February 2025 named client service and responsiveness as the reasons they had more projects lined up and did not expect to use anyone else. A 2022 customer got the rec room they wanted; a 2021 one had a kitchen and bathroom remodeled. Google sits at 4.8 across six ratings, and Houzz carries a much bigger tally — 5.0 from 47. Two things to sort out before signing. The credentials attached to the company — Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Aging in Place Specialist, a NARI universal-design certification, plus Remodeling Top 550, Qualified Remodeler Top 500 and Inc. 5000 badges — come from Houzz's profile and the company's own site, so ask to see them directly rather than taking the listing for it. And the BBB carries no rating at all for the firm, which it attributes to insufficient information in its file. The other honest limit is depth: five written accounts, one of them from 2021, is not much to judge how a builder handles a job that goes sideways. For a whole-room or whole-house remodel in Greater Boston, especially one that has to work for someone aging in place, ask for the same itemized breakdown the 2026 reviewer got, and for references on a project the size of yours.
My design firm had a great experience working with The Remodeling Company on a primary suite renovation. As an interior designer specializing in luxury residential renovation, I work closely with builders on complex, detail-driven projects — and this was a strong collaboration from the start. This was our first project together, and their team was organized, communicative, and easy to work with. Weekly site meetings kept the project moving efficiently and ensured nothing fell through the cracks.

What stood out most was their flexibility with a design that required significant customization. They approached the more complex elements with a problem-solving mindset rather than resistance — which made a real difference in the quality of the outcome. Their commitment to client satisfaction was evident throughout, and the end result is a space the clients truly love.
We'd welcome the opportunity to work with them again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.
I contacted Gary at the Remodeling Company about renovating my bathroom. He was among three other contractors who submitted proposals. His proposal was not only competitive on total cost, but it detailed labor hours, labor cost, subcontractor cost as well as material cost estimates, a level of detail missing from the other proposals. After I chose his bid, I met with him and his project manager who explained their process, gave me a reasonable time line and subsequently assigned a project manager who updated me weekly in writing what was planned. All the workers came on time and as scheduled. Most importantly, their work was outstanding and the final result was a bathroom renovation that exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend him and his crew.
We would highly recommend Gary Moffie and The Remodeling Company for their talent, client service & responsiveness. We have more projects upcoming, and we do not foresee working with anyone else.

Reasons
• Client Service – this is key. Most businesses focus on customer service, which is attention to a single need at a single point in time without thought to the impact to future considerations/outcomes. Gary and team have treated us like clients from Day 1. Their decisions/actions are clearly based on establishing a long-term working relationship.
• Craftsmanship
• Attention to detail and organization
• Communication and responsiveness
• Accountability
• The crew itself – very personable and enjoyable to work with

Project Details:
• Full kitchen gut and redesign, plus a half bath remodel.
• Scope of work involved: knocked down walls, installation of steel beam, re-routing of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, new cabinets, new appliances, new floors, new insulation, new walls/ceilings.

Referral:
We were referred to Gary Moffie at the Remodeling Company by B&G Cabinets (Cathy Stathopoulos; who my wife chose for the kitchen design and the cabinets).

Proposal Process
• Immediate response when we reach out for an estimate.
• Initial meet and greet was lengthy and extremely in-depth, covering our objectives, questions, budget, etc
• Gary also scheduled an engineer to come out and review the structural work together (this was pre-quote and contract) – this is just an example of work and time contractors do not usually put in initially (at least in our area)
• The quote was itemized and broken into components to allow us to build a final project to meet what we wanted, what we could afford, what should be done at this time and what could wait without impacting this finish product

Cost: Competitive.

Budget Surprises
We were NOT “nickel and dimed” throughout the process. We had a couple material additions to the cost due to unforeseen work such as rot and unexpected electrical that were not and could not be expected to be teased out during the estimation process. For slight project changes/pivots and additions that could have been expected/anticipated – we did not see constant additional charges.

Start Date: the project started on time and exactly as Gary had stated (Jan 2024)

Project Length: 3-4 months, as exactly as Gary had stated. There were little to no lulls in the project. There was someone here almost every day doing the work. The biggest delays were a result of the inspectors not meeting their appointments with Gary’s team (out of their control).

Crew:
• Project Manager (Mike) – always on time, always organized, immediate responses, always had updates on open items, and always had multiple acceptable solutions /options as things arose.
• Lead Carpenter/Foreman (Steve) and Assistant Carpenter (Brian) - I was working from home most of the project and I couldn’t have asked for two better people to be in my home doing the work and spending the time with me to understand all the innerworkings of the project.

Sub-Contractors:
Many contractors face issues with the retention of their sub-contractors. The Remodeling Company has long standing relationships with their subcontractors (demo, flooring, tile, electrical, plumbing, etc). I believe this is very important with respect to quality and timelines, etc.

Warranty Process
• We have had pro-active 3-, 6- & 9-month check-ins. They follow up with us, we do not chase them.
I had an amazing experience with everyone involved from start to a complete finish. We now have the REC ROOM of our dreams. My kids call it the "bonus" room haha. We know who will be doing our next project hands down.
They did a fantastic job of remodeling our kitchen and bathroom.
