One reviewer described calling three painters for an estimate; two never showed up, and the third — Derek, who runs The Wachusett Painter out of Holden — arrived on time, walked through the job in detail, and later emailed a written quote and timeline. That kind of follow-through is the throughline across five years of reviews for this one-man interior and exterior painting operation, which has served the Wachusett area since 2005. Every one of the 26 written reviews on file, spanning December 2021 through August 2026, is five stars, and the same descriptions repeat year after year: meticulous surface prep, careful cleanup, and sticking to the schedule. The range of jobs is wider than "house painter" suggests — restoring a badly weathered mahogany deck by stripping, sanding, and refinishing it with a new oil finish, described in an August 2026 review; repainting a 200-year-old house's exterior that had significant rot and chipping paint, which one 2022 reviewer said looked "brand new" afterward; refinishing kitchen cabinets by removing the doors, painting them off-site at his shop, and reinstalling everything exactly as it was, described in 2021 and 2022 reviews; and even sanding, staining, and varnishing a water-stained desk, described in a 2023 review. One customer who first hired Derek about 15 years earlier rehired him for a fresh coat in a December 2024 review and said his work "has only gotten better with time." There's nothing negative anywhere in the written record, across five years and three review sources. For interior or exterior painting, cabinet refinishing, or restoring older woodwork in the Wachusett area, The Wachusett Painter has an unusually deep, consistent run of five-star jobs — on everything from a two-century-old exterior to a single water-damaged desk — to point to.

We hired The Wachusett Painter to restore our mahogany deck, which had become badly weathered and had lost most of its original finish. They stripped and sanded the deck and applied a new oil finish, and the transformation was incredible. The mahogany looks beautiful again and the quality of the work really shows. Professional, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in doing the job right. I’m extremely happy with the results and would absolutely recommend The Wachusett Painter to anyone looking for quality painting or refinishing work.
Derek came out to paint my deck. I chose him after seeing what a fantastic job he did on my sister's garage. Derek had miserable working conditions with the humidity but he got the job done efficiently. His price was right and he is very fastidious...two qualities I always look for. I would recommend The Wachusett Painter for any of your painting needs!
Derek was amazing to work with from start to finish. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome on my painted garage. I was getting my house ready for sale and he was prompt, courteous and meticulously neat.
Derek painted 2 hallways and a staircase in our home and we couldn’t be happier. Super detail oriented and professional. We’ll definitely be calling him for our next paint job.
I very highly recommend The Wachusett Painter. Derek is very professional, does amazing and meticulous work, and is a pleasure to work with. We are very happy with the outcome.
